    Default Leaf Body

Why is the grasshopper's third section shaped like a leaf?

If you're talking about the critter on the leaf on P110, I don't believe that's Grasshopper... It's Ant!

No - it's the actual pictures of the grasshopper in the book and on the cover - the body is a leaf. That's the reason I've thought the bug on 110 was a grasshopper - if you look closely you'll see that its body is also a leaf. And what appears to be a third antenna would actually be the stem of the leaf.

Lol - we had a VERY LONG conversation with Arty about this in chat a couple weeks ago!

I have noticed that Stather's drawings of the grasshopper more closely resemble a katydid than a grasshopper. The jeweled grasshopper looks just like a grasshopper. Katydids however look just like leaves, eat leaves, are nocturnal and live in forests (trees). Don't know if this matters at all, could just be a case of artistic license but ya never know!

I agree... look at the pic:

Technically, it's from the same family.

I'm sold! OK, so *why* is the story Grasshopper actually a Katydid, when the jewel is clearly a Grasshopper? I know they're in the same family, but they *are* different!

Has anyone noticed what appears to be a white elephant under the grasshopper?

Also noticed that a segment of the tree further up the page looks to repeat itself three times. Largest poriton appears to have a hatchet in it.

Maybe this should go in random thoughts...dunno.

    Good luck to all

I wonder if the reason the grasshopper appears to have a leaf body is that the clues to grasshopper are coded in the leaves.
And the VX on ladybug - perhaps an extra indication that her clues are coded in the border with trees resembling roman numerals or maybe in the text where roman numerals appear.
Spider - has markings similar to those on the 'spiderborder' as we know.
