    Default Open Discussion About Ads

I would like to open up a discussion about ads so I can understand why they are there.

Yes, I donated to tweleve several times so I didn't have to view the ads while I was surfing the forum. I like this community and I can afford to donate. Instead of spending it on something I regret I just spend it here. And I can certainly understand a members inability to even donate $5, ever. I've been in that financial situation before and worked hard to climb out of that. I also know that just working hard isn't the only part of the equation. Luck comes into play too. It is not necessary for anyone to have to reveal that they haven't donated or that they cannot afford to.

How does this work? Do the companies pay a set amount per year, or pay each time an ad is clicked? If it's the latter I couldn't imagine that very many ads have been clicked.

Will my small donations thru the year actually put a dent in the cost of keeping this site up?

Would it kill us to click on an ad only once each time we log onto tweleve? Especially if it pays the bills? It could become an easy habit.

Can you explain how it works cthree. This is a subject we all should be aware of. If we like being a part of this community we should know what you need from us to belong and keep it running. Not too much is free in this world, and what may be free to a twelever is not free to you. And if clicking an ad pays that bill, why not click it then close that window? In good conscious I have clicked an ad now and again even after donating. Let me tell you. It is far easier than participating in my kids school fundraisers! Click it and close it.

So. Now that there are no ads. Will Tweleve always be around? I really, really don't want this to cause the eventual demise of Tweleve.org.

    Someone enlighten me.

    To add to that.....

I know before, there was that special link we could click on when buying things on Amazon.com and Tweleve got a certain percentage of each purchase. I booked marked that page and I still use it. Has that stopped working or is that still in effect? I spend about $2500/year on Amazon.com and have always used our special link - has that been helping? Have you seen that kick back?

The way it works is a combination of what is referred to as CPC (cost per click) and CPM (cost per milli [1000 impressions] ). So - Tweleve got paid a small amount when people clicked on the ads and also for each 1000 times an ad was served to a user (an impression). These rates are pennies at best and as you guessed, this forum has a bad case of what would you call it....ad blindness!

On the other hand and something we will still continue to do moderately (because it is way less intrusive and is more fiscally responsible) is offer ad space to private companies and individuals like the CodeBox people. They paid a fair rate to have their ad at the top of the forum index for 3 months. I hope some of you will check their product out. (in fact in my haste I had removed this advertisement as well. It's back up now.)

Absolutely. It makes a gigantic difference. I understand the reason you are asking this question, and that is because we used to take donations, then moved to ads and now back...the reasons behind that are basically that we got tired of having to "ask" for money and figured that the ads would be a way for the forum to survive without having to request funding. While this is the case (barely) - the ads were just too garish and inconsistent for us and we decided to pull them and toss the collection plate around.

As always your generosity has made us very proud.

This is a great suggestion and an idea we had when we first started serving them. Unfortunately after reading the blasted terms of service, we are prohibited from asking or "encouraging" our users to click them. As well, the companies that pay the publishers are very stringent about "click fraud" and recurring clicks from the same IP. I really appreciate your willingness to help.

Without any doubt at all. Tweleve.org will exsist perpetually and will always be online.

That still works and your purchases are a huge help. We get around 3-4 percent for Amazon purchases so thats like $100! Thats huge and we really appreciate that. I'm going to try and make that link more obvious.

Thanks for your questions and comments girls.

Please do make that Amazon link way more obvious. I ordered something a few months ago without using the link because I couldn't find it even though I looked for it. I still have no idea how to find it.

The Amazon link is now on the index, right under "Help Support Tweleve":

    cthree and other mods,

I have appealed to you publicly and via PM to request verification that the Fandango puzzle is still viable. I have received no reply.

Maybe I can understand that you, for whatever reason, do not want to contact the authors.

However, could you at least let me know that you do not plan to contact the authors.

I'm sure this is just a misunderstanding.

    Thanks much,

It used to be that benefactors didn't have to see ads. That is no longer the case. While I understand that money is needed for Tweleve and ads generate income,I must say they are really obnoxious. Is there any way to not see them? Thanks.
