Default A little scanner help please

OK......just retired and I've spent the last 25 years relying on an IT department and administrative assistants to do a lot of things.....great, talented people!!

But now I have to do it myself so bear with me.....but I could use a little help. It seems like it would be advantageous to have a scanner to share drawings of the five lines of missing poem I've found, etc. (just kidding - I WISH!).

Anyway, any recommendations from this group on a scanner to purchase? What should I expect to pay? What's a good easy-to-understand model? Will I be able to figure it out when I get it? If not, will you be back here for me?

dehlen, I recently bought a Canon LIDE50 scanner from Staples online. It was the cheapest price around ($60) with free shipping.

And the best part is it came with a free copy of Photoshop Elements 2.0.

Wow - Rusty - thanks for the idea! That sounds pretty tempting - I was thinking they were going to be more like $200. So...........may have to make a trip!

so just deduct the cost from the taxable amount of your jewel.

you might want to think about a transparency adapter model. If you have negatives from regular photos, this will allow you to scan the negative and end up with a digital picture. these start about $100 but have this feature---not so useful for ATT

I bought an 'HP Scanjet 3570c' from Overstock.com last year, for about $60. It has a transparency adapter. There is a newer model (refurbished) at the above link, for $54.99. And they always have $2.95 shipping! It pays to shop around!

I have an HP 1210 all in one, printer, scanner, copier. I think it was around $99 but it does alot, and I love it.

Great suggestions group! I love it....thank you! Good suggestion on the transparency adapter - I would want to be able to do that (of course, I didn't KNOW I wanted to do that until you mentioned it ).

And now that you mention the tax deductions....I'm thinking tracing paper, transparencies, magnifying glass, scanner, scissors.....hmmmm Of course, I'd need the jewel first!

Just a thought about the transparency adapter. If anyone needs to scan a transparency, but does not have a scanner with a transparency adapter, you can use Photoshop to invert the colors of the image after you scan it.

It's an extra step, but it works.
