The code looks tweaked visually in it's layout.

    K2 is presented like this:

Though it could look like this:

I thought the structure might avail itself to a simple coordinate system of X=days 1-31, Y=month 1-12. The position of the intentionally mispelled word is then (9,23). It would be (9,24) if we don't bother taking the extra step to make it 12 equal rows of 31.

What is the significance of September 23rd?

Been busy and not wanting to tediously sift through a bulk of code that might not be focused on the right keyword, or approach for that matter.

This snippet helps show the case that K2 contains exactly 8 more characters than there are days in a calendar year. I wanted to share this and try to have fresh eyes for a moment and wonder if there's any way to determine those letters specifically or is the main object only to present a spacial difference problem that leaves the 8 characters undefined as a few ?'s and X's. I've already considered all of this and thought it's left up to guesswork provided by the context of the location of the mispelled letter. Does Sept. 24th really lead to a new moon in the year 1919? Does it make sense to extrapolate to another new moon event in the same year, namely the May 29th eclipse that provided the experimental proof for Einstein's theory of General Relativity? Does the Q and X in K3 shift to R and Y, leaving the final inbetween letters of ELATIVIT, thus relating to the 8 character difference supplied by K2?

I have discussed the calendar idea before. Now I understand its methodology. Kryptos is a call for help from an agent trying to contact someone in his organization. The SOS in the Morse code is one clue. The use of a calendar starting with the month of May is another. Mayday Mayday Mayday. It is consistent with the position of the misspelled O in UNDERGUUND. Its the 116th letter in K2. 116 days, starting with May 1st, takes us to August 24th. The double transposition key needed to solve K3 is 8 and 24.
