Hey Rusty! Thanks so much for getting this started - color me 'bored with the rings'! I got into this a couple of years ago from the Da Vinci Code chase, but forgot about it. Now this is worth solving!

So it's probably not new info, but the distribution of letters in k4 is:
    (Count: letters)

    1: M, Y
    2: C, E, H, V, X
    3: D, J, N, P
    4: A, F, G, I, L, Q, R, Z
    5: O, B, W
    6: S, T, U
    8: K

But more interesting is that each and every letter occurs at least once.

The artist says that this one can't be solved by computer - so what kind of cyphers are not computer compatible????

Probably many. I would think any homegrown cipher is not solvable. Sanborn has said in an interview that it is not difficult to invent a cipher system that is difficult to crack. So, I tend to think K4 is something he came up with himself. Whether or not Scheidt had a hand in creating the K4 cipher is up for debate.

Another thing that strikes me as interesting is the number of Qs versus the number of Us.
There are 4 Qs and 6 Us. If this is some sort of transposition cipher and all of the Qs are in the plaintext, it only leaves 2 Us for the rest of the cipher. What could have so many Q words?

Default It's a very small world

    Rusty,

While I'm not working on Kryptos, I thought you might enjoy this story. It just proves it's a very small world. I'll put in within a spoiler tag so it doesn't consume too much space.

    Regards,
