    Yes, thanks for replying.

Mainly what I was getting at was if the folds were natural or if they had been skewed, moved, slipped when the scan was done.

How much of a "peek through" is there?

The reason I ask is that I can clearly see some words in the peek through.
    'Day of....'

Beyond that, I haven't gotten. I have to get some ink for my computer as the writing was too light to make out the letters when I printed out the scans.

    Hi Van,

Are you looking at the scan, directly above the full page scan, which shows the pyramids?

If so, the peek-through letters in the peek-through are upside down (you probably already realized that).

Yesterday, I was looking carefully to try to determine if the folds were close to symmetric - I don't think they are, but not sure if that affects what you were finding.

The original Parchment is not quite 8 1/2 inch wide, so if you try to reconstruct, be careful. (I get 208.5 mm by about 296 mm, at 2.54 mm per inch).

It appears that the peek-through is about 1 character wide.

Okay, Van, looking at the full-page, with peek-through, upside up. Below the "join the missing dots" box, the first three vertical letters that I can see (some are partial) are "day". Nice catch.

Good, you see what I'm talking about then.

On the scan itself, if I increase the size (magnify) to read better, then the letters get too blurry to make out.

So, I printed them. I understand that it's not quite a full paper size, so I cropped the scan before printing.

Then I folded it in half, quarters, and thirds. so that when I creased the folds there was a type of grid made by the fold lines.

Basically I tried to reproduce the parchment and all it's folds that the scan showed.

Now, one thing on my print out, the "peek through" is actually larger than it shows on the scan, which is what prompted me to ask. I have not looked back at it to see if I could produce any more coherent words, but my suspicion is that there may be some.

Like I said, I need to get some new ink so that I can print the words darker.

Lemme know if you spy anything else. Thanks

It is a bit curious that the "r" is highlighted in the Parchment (obstensibly pointing to the pig pen "R" in the MARANATHA title).

All the letters in the Pig Pen title are capitalized, but the "r" is small in the Parchment clue.

The "r" is one of the few shapes that resembles its Pig Pen counterpart, the other being the "L". Both are dotted in Pig Pen, and the Parchment talks about dots.

I reccommend getting hold of an original 'Parchement of Clues' and Priory have re-released these on their Jeeves & Jolyon Store...

The r and L form the traced pattern of a knights move. Knights moves played a very important role in BOTH of the French Rennes genre puzzles I had worked on before Maranatha. This makes the usage of a knights move somewhere in Maranatha not only predictable, but essentially mandatory.

P.S., in the second puzzle I worked on, the usage of the knights move was not confined to the "knights tour", but it served the same basic function.

That's an excellent point, Jesse. It does show how inter-woven this is.

The knight traces 1,3 or 3,1.

R and L also mean Right / Left.

Is the r in ARCADIA in the bottom scan the one you were referring to Rob? That r has clearly been manipulated into a right angle. Notice also the difference in the pig-pen R's. The top the upper one is shorter than the side (like the book cover), perhaps to echo the knights move.
