As for the prisoner that died in a dungeon of the Inquisition, you could hardly call him a christian. If he was at the hands of the Inquisition he would more likely was considered a heretic. So his view of the cross etc was not chrisitian but in all probability esoteric. Naming the arms of the cross with length, width, heighth and depth is also one of the ways
I thought of this aspect, so thanks for posting this.

The other interesting thing to note is that "length, width, height and depth" is in the section of the pigpen headed "Par Ce Signe Tu Le Vaincras" - i.e. under this sign you will conquer him. This epithet is found on the angels/Asmodeus statue in the Church at RLC. The angels are making the sign of the cross. My contention is that given the heading and the juxtapositioning of the "length, width, height and depth", that the naming of the arms of the cross as described is likely to be appropriate.

Also constantine followed the sign of the Cross.
Another interesting point to this is we are told the cross represents LOVE which happens to be represented by the symbol of the planet Venus. This symbol consists of the circle and cross. Book 2 also tells us that Venus represents Lucifer (Rex Mundi). The circle is represented by the Sun aspect (Wisdom), which from my research represents Joseph's wisdom. Move the cross into the sun symbol and now you have the Earth symbol which Lucifer rules. So Love gives us the cross which repreent sun, earth and Venus symbol.
