    Happy Spring to all.

Your post re-stimulated a question, which relates to the use of "noon" in alchemy - such as in Flamel's testimony. Any ideas on that ?

    Thank-you,

I find that the idea of 'noon' has several points to consider and connects so many ideas that are relevant.

To begin with, it is the beginning/end (0 degrees/ 360 degrees) of the clock, so make of that what you will.

Next point is that this time also refers to Mid-Day, the point of time when the sun is meant to be directly overhead, it's highest point in the sky.

Also keep in mind that the term Meridian refers to the same idea, mid day, and an imaginary line made longitudinally across the earth at the Sun's highest point in the sky. The Earth's current Prime Meridian refers to the point when this occurs at the Spring Equinox, which I pointed out in previously posting that this date on the calendar marks the intersection of the Ecliptic and the Celestial Equator. This is the time when the "heavens meet the earth".

It is also the point when the Sun and the Earth share a balance of power, because it is when the powers of night and day are at balance.

If you were to explore themes of the " Golden Age ", they usually refer to a time when people had no need to plant food because there were no seasons, the gifts of the earth came as bounty, all people had to do was to reach out and receive what was there.

These, for me, are all metaphors. They could be interpreted literally, as many do, but in my opinion it is referring to something else, something spiritual in nature. It made it more safe in the past to refer to the subject as something distanced by time or relate it to observable phenomena. But, I do believe there is further to look into in this capacity also.

On Mysterious Writings, Nate Beck's post The Secret of the Midday Demon stimulated some investigation for me also, and re-affirmed the idea that Noon was to many in the past, a time of fear and superstition.

With this, I can only speculate and perhaps project my own beliefs onto the theme, but still able to find ideas of value in it.

Mid-Day is time when the sun is directly overhead. This is the time when nothing casts a shadow. In Kabbalic or mystical terms, I take this as the time when a person loses their "companion". Think of the 2 riders on a horse, the templar symbol.

The Shadow, in terms of the laws of microprosopus, would be the negative counterpart to the physical reality of our existence. With the sun directly overhead, it would be diminished and we might become vulnerable, or worse (superstitou

Further, looking into the etymology of the English word "NOON", it looks like the root of the word is Latin, "NON" (not?), or Nones (Ninth), with the latter referring to the ninth hour of daylight. This would have made it about 3pm, according to the source i am reading , but apparently at some point this changed when the Church shifted their prayers from the ninth hour to the sixth hour, making it today's 12 pm.

There is even further significance, and noon relates to the crossed fingers hand-sign I have at the top of the previous page in this thread. It also relates to Rose Tau (rose cross), The Rose (Meridian) Line, the Cave and Cross overhead in Royston (the gold of Enoch buried above), Centrum in trigoni centri, and the myth of Jason and the Argonauts where Jason travels to get the golden fleece (Aries) and to marry the sorceress MED-ea.

And finally, it finds relevance in Masonic tradition. To the Holy Royal Arch ceremony, the treasure of Enoch buried in a tomb that one has to be lowered into from above. To the square and plumb-line where these 'tools' allowing precise measuring of connecting the 'above' with the 'below', these tools measure straightness and true-ness. One has to true their inner selves before finding themselves 'square' enough to meet the true-ness being offered from above. Its quite beautiful actually.

There are three degrees to Masonry, three sides to a triangle. Look at the pythogorean theorem and how the sides measure in proportion 3, 4, and 5 to produce a right (square corner) triangle.

Thanks for prompting the question Astree because it has helped put all of these thoughts together in order, which have been there, albeit swimming around wildly. I will try to make further postings relating more about these ideas and how they correspond.

    .
    hayward,

Thank-you for your detailed, and varied, response re: 'noon'. I have considered many of those items, it is good to be reminded of them.

Towards Duncan's Masonic Solution- Rennes Les Chateau-

A couple of things that stand out right now-

The statues in question, in particular that of St Roch and the exposed knee.

Duncan describes this exposed knee as well as the exposed breast being of Masonic significance. Previously noted af few years ago-- take a look at the shepherdess in Poussin's first Shepherds of Arcadia.

Next, the description of St Luk-- itis important as a conglomeration of several important symbols.

I can't find a good picture of St Luke from the church, but he describes a base with for angels supporting a circular dome. Within this is a tilted square and above this, the Saint stands holding a Six-pointed Lily.

More regarding the exposed thigh (rather than knee, actually). Look at the story of Jacob wrestling the angel. The angel touches his thigh and either cripples Jacob or ends the match. He is then given his new name, ISRAEL.

Furthermore, does not the skull and crossbones contain two thigh bones?

    More on the thigh:
(copied from someone else's inquiry into the subject)

    Genesis 24:2

One day Abraham said to his oldest servant, the man in charge of his household, “Take an oath by putting your hand under my thigh.

    Genesis 47:29

As the time of his death drew near, Jacob called for his son Joseph and said to him, “Please do me this favor. Put your hand under my thigh and swear that you will treat me with unfailing love by honoring this last request: Do not bury me in Egypt.

    Leviticus 7:33

The right thigh must always be given to the priest who offers the blood and the fat of the peace offering.

    Revelation 19:16

On his robe at his thigh was written this title: "King of all kings and Lord of all Lords."

I think I get the joke but maybe I haven't received the punch-line yet. Because I'm not laughing.
