    Back to music...

try to find the End Credits Theme to Shakespeare in Love. It builds and builds in a never ending crescendo and is one.

    Big.

    WOW!

I went to an audition recital yesterday; a soprano friend is trying to get into graduate school for voice.  (she most decidedly will!)  Without question, the showstopper was in the American Opera set, when she performed The Trees on the Mountain, from Susannah (Carlisle Floyd).

If you can stomach opera at all, this will evoke things in you that you didn't know were there.  I'll admit that I don't know the opera well enough to recommend it, but this particular aria will knock you flat.  I highly recommend it.

a sample of the song, but not the whole thing:

    Hope you enjoy.

I just went and bought a different version of this - try Renee Fleming's CD, I Want Magic.  The clip above is such a tiny part of this aria; it just doesn't come close to doing it justice.

If you are reading this thread, you must be moved by music!  Go. Buy. This. CD. NOW!  (especially you, over there... )  It has a phenomenal message for lovers. You must hear the ending.

I love the song Photograph by Nickleback. Even better is the lyrics all by themselves...

    Photograph - Nickelback

    Look at this photograph
Everytime I do it makes me laugh
How did our eyes get so red
And what the hell is on Joey's head

And this is where I grew up
I think the present owner fixed it up
I never knew we'd ever went without
The second floor is hard for sneaking out

And this is where I went to school
Most of the time had better things to do
Criminal record says I've broke in twice
I must have done it half a dozen times

I wonder if it's too late
Should I go back and try to graduate
Life's better now than it was back then
If I was them I wouldn't let me in

    Oh oh oh oh
    Oh God I, I

Every memory of looking out the back door
I have the photo album spread out on my bedroom floor
It's hard to say it, time to say it
    Goodbye goodbye

Every memory of walking out the front door
I found the photo of the friend that I was looking for
It's hard to say it, time to say it
    Goodbye goodbye

    Remember the old arcade
Blew every dollar that we ever made
The cops hated us hanging out
They say somebody went and burned it down

We used to listen to the radio
And sing along with every song we know
We said someday we'd find out how it feels
To sing to more than just the steering wheel

Kim's the first girl I kissed
I was so nervous that I nearly missed
She's had a couple of kids since then
I haven't seen her since God knows when

    Oh oh oh oh

    I miss that town
    I miss the faces
    You can't erase
    You can't replace it
    I miss it now
    I can't believe it
    So hard to stay
    Too hard to leave it

If I could relive those days
I know the one thing that would never change

Every memory of looking out the back door
I have the photo album spread out on my bedroom floor
It's hard to say it, time to say it
    Goodbye goodbye

Every memory of walking out the front door
I found the photo of the friend that I was looking for
It's hard to say it, time to say it
    Goodbye goodbye

    Look at this photograph
Everytime I do it makes me laugh
Everytime I do it makes me

I had the very great experience tonight of hearing "Hodie" by Ralph Vaughan Williams. This Christmas Cantata is incredibly complex in rhythm and pitch, requiring the audience to pay attention. You will miss considerable if you allow your mind to stray! If you have the chance to hear it performed this holiday season, I'd recommend it.

My Christmas began with the Epilogue:

Ring out, ye crystal spheres, once bless our human ears, if ye have power to touch our senses so; and let your silver chime move in melodious time, and let the bass of heaven's deep organ blow and, with your ninefold harmony, make up full consort to the angelic symphony.

Such music (as 'tis said), before was never made, but when of old the sons of morning sung, while the Creator great his constellations set, and the well-balanced world on hinges hung; and cast the dark foundations deep, and bid the weltering waves their oozy channel keep.

Yea, truth and justice then will down return to men, orbed in a rainbow; and, like glories wearing, mercy will sit between, throned in celestial sheen, with radiant feet the tissued clouds down - steering; and heaven, as at some festival, will open wide the gates of her high palace hall.
