That sounds like a neat place...8 hours from Austin.
Could possibly make a weekend out of it!

!!!! That's the state park we road- tripped to for spring break!!!! We had a blast! Didn't find any diamonds, but the kids had a blast digging in the dirt!!!! We left Indy just as a bad storm was hitting....I drove all night to Arkansas and didn't have any difficulties. It was a nice drive.....we left on a Sunday night, so wasn't much traffic. It wasn't until after we got there that I found out Arkansas had tornados the night before.... was the same band of storms that was hitting Indy when we left.. luckily, for us, every where we went, the storm had already hit so we didn't get caught in any of it. I saw on the news yesterday that one of downtown Indys big buildings had been hit by 117 mph winds the night we left... which was also the night of the NCAA games.... thankfully, Indy didn't have nearly the damage as the states south of us.

OMG!! We had to postpone our spring break trip to Kokomo, IN a day because of those storms. Good thing we did. We would have been in the area hit by an F2 tornado around the time it hit!! I had a bad feeling about driving up there when I saw the weather report for the day. So did my Mom, so I didn't leave that afternoon, thank goodness! The tornado cut a path around New London right across I74 just a few miles before the 465 interchange. The damage was incredible!! We saw a news report that some local teens from an area church used their spring break that week to clean the fields of debris so the farmers could plant the next week as planned. Kudos to those wonderful teenagers!!

We discovered Crater of Diamonds SP during the summer on internet searches during the hunt. It's one of many places we have a list of wanting to see. We would have never heard of half of the great places we found if it were not for A Treasure's Trove!
