Default 'Sacred Myths and Legends': An Unusual Hunt Variant

Greetings from a balmy Louisiana day two days before Christmas!

I've been in hibernation due to computer problems and increased work load--I think we've got the computer stuff licked, and I'm going to try to get cranked back up over the holidays.

I received a gift yesterday that looks really neat I wanted to pass along to the group.

The overall set is called 'Sacred Myths and Legends' and consists of seven wooden puzzles. The first three are named 'Da Vinci's Secret: The Clue', 'The Equation', and 'Legend of the King'.

They're very elegantly packaged, and they're meant to be a sequential series of puzzles. The first one, 'Da Vinci's Secret' is a sort of puzzle box. Within the box is a hidden scroll that contains the necessary clue to decipher the password on a web site as well as give a clue to help solve the next puzzle, 'The Equation'.

I managed to open the box and obtain the scroll, but I'm not certain how the clues were supposed to help me open it. There's a second layer of the puzzle awaiting you when you manage to open the box--a series of letters engraved along the shaft as well as some odd numbers or letters engraved on one of the cylinders as well as the hidden scroll itself.

I haven't managed to find the correct password as yet, but I love the idea of having a physical puzzle in conjunction with some sort of overall treasure hunt.

Kinda fun to play around with.

    Happy Holidays,

    Doc

Sounds great Doc, thanks for the heads up! I'm thinking about ordering the first one to see how it plays out.

Info: These are a set of physical puzzles that you must purchase. I've done a little bit of Googling and this site had the lowest price.

    Nite,

Hurry up and get it! LOL!

I can't get the first password. Scratching my head.

It finally dawned on me that the strange engravings on one of the wheels might be Greek numbers.

I faintly remember from physics using a 'v' with a tail on its first arm?

What would these 'possible' Greek numbers represent to you:

iota, gamma, lambda, gamma, nu (I think the 'v' with on a tail on it is 'nu'...?)

No particular order to these letters/numbers--they're arranged in a circular fashion.

    Scratching my head a bit....

Doc, cylinders were used by the Egyptians as an early form of block printing. Is it possible to rub charcoal on this one and roll it onto paper? Maybe this will give a clearer image and more clues. Lafitte

Not sure if anyone is reading from this post anymore, but I got the 1st puzzle, the Da Vinci Secret last night. I solved the puzzle part in under 30 minutes, and got the scroll. But trying to figure out the password is another story. I went to bed thinking about the puzzle, and the clues, and this morning, I got a pair of pliers and pulled out one of the pins on the top, and it came out pretty easy. (the pin to pull is if the puzzle is facing you where the slit is for the top part comes out, pull the right pin.) When you take the "locks" off, on the large dark wood, there are 5 engravings on it. I have a 1, large L, a y smaller L, and a L with a slant line from the top of the L going away from it. I checked the other blocks, and there isn't any other markings on them.

Time has been tight so I haven't been here in a while, or worked on any hunts. But, this one looks like fun (and it's something physical/material) to handle. I just bought all 3 (Davinci's Secret, The Equation, and Legend of the King).
There's a site out there that has a few hints, and it looks like there will be 3 more puzzles after these.

    Good luck!

LOL yeah they give hints, but I still haven't figured out the password yet. Not sure what combo it is, and I feel I did all I had written down. Not sure if it's in order going clockwise, counter-clockwise, or just a random code using the 5 letters and numbers. Still trying to figure out if the one engraving is a 2 or a square root symbol, or what. Or if it's 2 7s or 2 Ls or one of each. It's confusing!!!! =)

Just got DaVinci's Secret in the mail today (UPS). Got the puzzle apart in less than 10 minutes...that was the easy part (hold the puzzle vertically by one of the ends and look between the square blocks...you can see the knotch where it should line up with the slide in the core). The "carvings" on the block....hmmmmm......???
I read somewhere about "find the missing symbol" or something like that. Looked for as many clues as I could find. Yep....no luck yet!

hey all... I got the first two puzzles today. I also got the first one open. I am thinking the password is going to be a letter/number combo that spells out 'smile' or 'you smile'. I tried the obvious combos with no luck.. using 5 for s, m or w for the m, 1 or i for the i, 7 or L for the L and 3 or e for the e. I tried it backwords and fowards.. any other Ideas out there? Still dont get the letters on the shaft... lets put our heads together and solve this!
