Regarding the map, the letters on the outside are each unique, and together they exhaust all the letters of the alphabet with the exception of S, W, and Z. I am interpreting the "2"-looking thing as a capital Q, but perhaps it is the Z (in which case Q is missing). Also, there is an extra character that is not S, W, Z, or Q, but looks like a T. It isn't T either, since there is a T that looks much more T-like elsewhere. Taking the "o" as the starting point, we have:

    B?FPO (the ? looks like a curly T)
    LJCRI=TN
    MKHG
    DYVQUX
The N could be a Z if it belongs to the next side. That would make 6 letters on three sides and 5 on the other (first) side. Unless you count the little "o" as an "o" then there are 6 letters on each side (counting as one letter). Hmm, that means (counting as an A and E and assuming the 2 looking thing is a capital Q) we are missing S, W and N. South, West and North? Hmmm.

BTW, "the dog ran and ran and hid the strange new bone the way dogs do" ... I love this line!

That leaves the boy who drowned. he bought it at a pawn shop but then fell into the river and drowned

I assumed the boy and apprentice were one and the same. Perhaps I was wrong?

    Default Team Up

Anybody want to team up on this? Send emails back and forth? I'm out of the country so I won't be winning--just in it for the fun. Thanks.

    Default Homonyms....hymmmmmmmmmmm

Here is a quote from Steve McA off of his blog:

"I like homonyms, and phrases that can mean more than one thing. You are mine and Ewe are mine sound the same but mean vastly different things. "

So the lyrics are definitely key. Also explains the phonetic alphabet in the map page.

    Question Halp?

I feel like a newbie asking this, but what's the whole cryptic Bingo-card hint refering to? You can PM me or whatever, but I feel like I'm missing the boat.

For the most part, I've been experimenting with a lot of different things and not really getting anywhere. The EUREKA thing, I got. The first letter/sound of lines in track 11, I got. The Story So Far, I think I got (heh). Otherwise, I'm left scratching my head until it's raw and bleeding.

Thanks. I tried sending you a PM in response, but since I have so few posts (thanks to Alchemist Dar's rule about sharing answers), I couldn't send it.

If we come up with anything (else) earth-shattering, I'll post a cryptic clue about it.

Posting away in here should bring your count up enough to PM... I'm sure you have plenty of random thoughts on this hunt.

    Default Hints

From the Silver Key site's Blog page:

... When I conceived of this project I thought I might put out a hint every six months or perhaps just one on the anniversary (in Sept). I think it might be a good idea. The real trick, I suppose, is to figure out 1) what kind of hint and 2) how to make sure everyone knows about it.

No. 1 can be broken down into three sub-categories: a) obvious, b) oblique, and c) useless. Preferably, Id want to go with option b.

The trick is, I have no idea how far along people are. Sure, theres the forum, but not every player posts there, and Im sure people hold back some of the things theyve discovered.

For now, I think Ill plan on a September update (provided its not already discovered by then).

This tells us that he wants to and is going to give us hint(s). Oblique ones, but hints! This post also lets us know that no one's found the key yet. I like to know whether or not the prize is still out there.
