I can't decide if he is just another hunter or part of the game to provide clues....

    Default Song Order and "stuff"

Looking at the Silver Key Website, there is a Journal posted where Steve McAllister is keeping a running blog on the creation and execution of the hunt. Besides interesting reading at how it came together, I think he has given us some kernels to chew on for clues...

    1. The song order as posted by iTunes wasn't in the same order as the CD, and mention is made of that fact plus the correct order. A clue in the ordering of the titles perhaps?

    2. THere is a collage photo of "stuff" that was collected as source material for developing the songs and the hunt items. Visible amongst the material is a map showing CA and NV, and another map which looks like a park or trail map.

He also is looking on at this forum as the hunt progresses.

Don't know - but it sure is his voice - so I would guess that it is S McAllister.

Did you ever notice that in the original Sept. 25th post that there were only eleven song titles listed "to correct" the iTunes issue... it was then changed and "corrected" about a week or so later.

Yeah, I went back and looked through my notes.... and um... I have no idea!! I have jotted down so many random things that I really don't recall. Duh!

If you look on the website under "Press" at the very bottom it lists the song titles in a different order and is missing one of them.

Perhaps this was the original listing and it changed during production?

The missing song is "IN ONE".

Default Clues are in the album.

I think it's very unlikely that the journal includes any clues. The website says: "All the clues needed to find it are hidden in this album." He'd be inviting all kinds of legal troubles if he started offering clues outside the album.

Here's the letter frequencies for the ciphertext on the inside cover of the album:

    a 2
    b 1
    c 0
    d 4
    e 2
    f 2
    g 0
    h 1
    i 0
    j 2
    k 3
    l 1
    m 1
    n 2
    o 1
    p 1
    q 2
    r 2
    s 6
    t 0
    u 1
    v 1
    w 1
    x 1
    y 1
    z 0

I don't know anything about cryptography but does the preponderance of certain letters and the absence of others indicate that this is a straight substitution cipher? Or is that something that appears in polyalphabetic ciphers as well and this is just too small a sample of text for all letters of the alphabet to turn up?

That's an awful lot of "S"s.
