    Thanks Musicman,

Like the ideas and hadn't thought about family trees at all when I was pondering over the social trees clue, I was thinking more along the lines of L M Montgomery and "Anne of Green Gables", so far without success.

The map has 10 sections and there are 10 chapters in the book, so could it be that each section relates to a chapter?

Also, has anyone noticed that the pictures on the map change from creatures to leaves on the first page of subsequent chapters (if you access them via the site map) and the section that is currently blank in the Chapter 1 map contains a Bee/Wasp instead of a leaf. Could be that these are also placeholders but then again they could be clues.

The other thing I noticed is that the Chapter 1 map appears to be the top half of Melissa's plan which has the green leaf in place, maybe the bottom half of the plan is a mirror image of the top or we have to rearrange the images in the correct order all round the plan once we've deciphered them, as Musicman suggests?

Well that's about as much thinking as I've done on this ... but its not making much sense to me yet

How about a coffee or tea tree?

Tea Tree is what I was thinking. This could in some way simply imply the letter "T" to be used later.

As far as the B. Bird, first thing I thought was simply 77 due to the shape of the feet. It may be more creative or abstract than that but we shall see.

I'll lurk and chime in to help you all if I have something to add but will not be immersing myself to work this puzzle; got to pick my poisons.

    Best to ya.

    Hi All!

Yes. My first guess for the tree was Tea Tree and like you Domino I thought of 77 also. Actually at the very start I thought of SR-71 as the bird's number which is also called a Blackbird. But I feel we may need to do a bit more puzzling to get the correct set of answers. See below for some input I did get from the hunt creator on the answer submission criteria.

I did sign up for the newsletter and did ask a few questions. Got a very quick reply from the hunt originator and I will share the parts actually pertaining to the hunt with you.

What I can tell you is that each chapter can be regarded as a stepping stone to the final puzzle. Once all ten chapters are unlocked it will be possible for the treasure hunter to start to glimpse and tackle the deeper puzzles.

Clues can be found on several places on the website - not just in the individual chapters.
If the two answers are entered correctly, there will be no doubt that the puzzle has been solved as the puzzle form will vanish and be replaced by a picture link with the words "you have unlocked Chapter 2". Clicking the picture link will add a cookie to the computer which will unlock the next chapter. The current chapter 2 is a dummy page which just gives a "Well done" message. If there is enough early interest, I might also put chapter 2 online.......

Currently, the test to see if the answer is right is extremely fussy and you have to get the answers exactly right. So, for example, if you were to answer (and this is not a hint to the correct answer) "elephants and ten" as the two answers and the right answers are "elephants and 10" you would be deemed to be incorrect.
One of my first jobs is to make the contact form work in an automated way allowing an instant acknowledgment on submission. Right now all submission are landing in my inbox and this is why you are having to wait for an unreasonable time before getting an acknowledgment. Please say "thanks" to your members using your forum thread to let them know that if they have requested a newsletter that they are on my mailing list. I am probably going to set up a Google Group so that I can keep in touch with you all regarding the site's progress. Did someone say they wanted a Wiki? I might set one up for you if there is much interest.

Whew! I guess that's all for now. Many thanks to you and all the members of your website who are taking an interest in The Tenth Leaf.

    Best wishes

    Janet
Hopefully that helps all of us and will keep us willing to stay with the hunt. It looks like a good one to me.

Funny SR-71 was on my radar on Friday. I tried it in the answer box but either it was wrong in combination, wrong altogether or, after reading your post, there is more to it for its answer. Yep, tried 71 alone too. If I were to get it, I'd let you know and give some serious hints but I gather man you will advance way before I.

    Happy Hunting.

    Default Leaves

The genus of the leave for each chapter may be important. Ch 1 looks like a walnut by its leaf configuration.

Also - the hint about the link between the girl and the bird. We need to find a story involving both to understand how they connect.

On the lined paper under the pencil, it looks like it reads-96 Euston Road. The 96 Euston I found is "The British Library".

    Check this out. Nice changes!

    tenthleaf.com - FAQs

I received a newsletter in my email inbox:

    Dear all,
I'd like to give a big thank you to you for getting in touch with me.
Some of you have offerred suggestions on how to improve the site.

Although I have participated avidly in treasure hunts before, this is my
first time creating one, so these suggestions were very welcome. Once
pointed out, they do seem like something of a "no-brainer" and I have
been eager to make some changes to the site which I hope will make
things a little fairer and less ambiguous. I'd like to reassure everyone
that it is fully my intention of running the entire website by an
experienced third party before the site is open for business so any lack
of clarity will be caught by then and you will not have to waste your
time with woolly or ill thought-out puzzles.

Today, I have made 4 significant changes to the site. The changes will
be live by about 4pm today.

The first is a change to the FAQs page. I have added several items
which clarify the format of the answers. It might be useful to read the
right hand side of the page through in detail.

The second change is a rewording of the questions posed in Chapter 1.

The third is modified content in the 6th sliding panel.

The fourth is a new sliding panel - I'll let you guys figure out how to
    trigger that.

    Very best wishes,

    Janet
