    Default The Hungerford Quest

    Hi,

I've just come across this hunt but it looks like it was launched back in June 2009. The quest is for the "Hungerford Jewel" which was orginially valued at 4000.
    The Hungerford Quest

However, according to an article in the Newbury Sound (Quest Continues), it has still not been solved and the value has increased to 5000.

According to the Terms of the hunt, you have to register for the quest and pay an entry fee of 10 which gets you 12 clues. Eleven of these will direct you to specific locations in and around Hungerford (which for those of you who don't know, is a small town in the South of England).

The final clue will lead you to the Keeper of the Jewel and will consist of one or more questions which you will need to answer when you meet him.

    Default Treasure

If you are interested in solving puzzles, ciphers etc and finding treasure, you should check out The Ultimate Quest. It's been around for a while, but is still very much 'live'. The gold chalice is by now likely to be very valuable. Here's the link: www.rolandoliver.co.uk

Has anyone looked into this one? I may be heading in the direction of Hungerford in the next couple weeks and wondered if it was worth a look....

Wow, I cant believe how much that looks remarkably like the old Scrollquest webpage. In so many ways.

Scrollquest was a little before my time - is that a good thing or a bad thing?

(And Domino, although I've been a quiet little mouse lately, I'm still dreaming of Cowboys! Haven't given up yet....)

    depends...mostly bad.

And, I like quiet little mice, they always seem to leave little "gifts"...joke. I hope you are finding the COWBOY way.

    Cheers,

I can verify that the hunt is still on!

I actually visited the shop where the prize is being displayed and spoke with the man who designed and made the jewel. He currently holds quite a great title: Constable of the Town and Manor of Hungerford and the Liberty of Sandon Fee!

It has been running for a couple years now and it sounds like they're considering ways of bringing the hunt to a close sometime this summer so that it doesn't drag on forever. Apparently, the people involved in the design of the hunt expected it to be solved much earlier and have been quite surprised at how long the prize has gone unclaimed.

We didn't have a lot of time to invest, but I can report that the puzzle is constructed as described on the website and if one has an afternoon to mosey about the area, one can at least make some progress. If nothing else, the puzzle is a great excuse for a nice walk around a beautiful area.

If anyone is interested in giving it a go, I recommend going via the bookstore as I think there may be a bit of trouble with the online support.
