    Default The Amazing Ring Race

    Hi,

This might interest you if you live in the Seattle area.

A $15,000 diamond ring has been hidden somewhere in downtown Seattle.

A city-wide high-tech, treasure hunt to find (and win) that ring is scheduled for 21st August 2010.

You have to register to enter but places are limited so you have to win your place first.

    Full details here:

    Default Excellent Find

Thanks for the info. I am only 4 and a half hours away. I hope I am selected to play. You have to apply and explain to them why you should be chosen to participate with your spouse or teammate. It is designed for 2 players, which gives me some ideas as to how this High Tech game will take place in a 4 hour time span.I hear the premonition crackle of walkie talkies out there...hehe

I have done these and they are far from "fair" as alot depends on technology both in what you own (cellphone and plan) and that the company producing it has their system/program/technology "working" properly.

The company that produces these hunts is making a fortune on them. I would not say that the people that won the most recent one that was done in my town with a major jewelry store/brand were either the smartest, quickest or had the most luck, most likely it had to do with a combination of all those things plus having the correct cell plan. Or, they were a plant.

BTW there is absolutely no way to tell if it is fixed when the winner is called on the phone (oh the suspense) at the final sponsor location (yes, that is the way it is determined, quiet room filled with a ton of people hoping their phone is the one that is called). You dont FIND a ring, you win one by collecting the most points through their cell phone clue system. All I know is they promoted 'Only 100 lucky couples wil compete to find the ring' and there ended up being +1000 (yes, THOUSAND) on the hunt. No ring to be found, just won. It is, after all, a marketing scheme for the jewelry company.

I did have fun but was surely disappointed it was not really a Winner Take All if you find it type of hunt. There were tons of local clues and questions to answer (but yuo better get it exaclty correct, spailling en awl). Everyone playing will be at the final location waiting for that phone call to the winning phone. At ours, their parting gifts were mainly coupons for the jewelry store to get you back in ie. SPend $250 and get the next $200 FREE type thing.

These diamond ring hunts have been popping up everywhere recently. They are usually called Diamond Dashes, instead of the Amazing Ring Race, but they are all the same thing and are all being run by SCVNGR.

Ooo er, that doesn't sound like a treasure hunt at all, especially if you have the wrong mobile phone plan, it could end up costing you a small fortune

I did a mobile phone treasure hunt once that a national newspaper was running, was doing quite well too, up there in the top 10 on the leader board, then "something" went wrong with the technology, answers disappeared into the ether and the next thing I knew I was so far down the leader board I gave up looking. All very disappointing.

Thanks for the info, I had noticed that there were a few of these "ring" hunts popping up, but hadn't realised how they worked, if I had I would have been less inclined to post the details.

Thanks folks, I looked back and I really dont want to sound like a Negative Nelly on this but I do care about the hunts and want to convey what i experienced. If I hadnt said to myself a few dozen times "that was not what I thought it was going to be" I would not have posted about it in a negative light. It was to the extreme- not what I thought it would be. Fun but marketing driven for the company.

Writerian, never stop posting, I always look forward to what you find out there.

    Cheers, Domino
