I just pre-ordered as well - from amazon (US). Sounds interesting, as I love poking around on Google Earth!

There seem to be 4 different versions available on amazon.co.uk
    Normal
    Deluxe
    LargeSize
    Interactive

I hope they all contain exactly the same information.

    Hi TIM,

My first impression was that they would have to contain the same info otherwise one might provide an unfair advantage over the other.

I then took a look at Amazon and could only find one edition I even put in what you have listed above and couldnt find them. I'd love to take a look so if you can provide more info that would be great.

Think I'd go the interactive version given a choice.

Amazon.co.uk: The Great Global Treasure Hunt on Google Earth: Books

There is also another book by a different author with a very similar cover and identical number of pages published recently - which whisks you around the world.

The Great Global Puzzle Challenge with Google Earth: Amazon.co.uk: Clive Gifford, William Ings: Books

How are the books connected? Perhaps both authors worked with google's graphic designer at the same time.

I guess all books are interactive - you have to pick them up and read!

The blurb on the recent google earth hunt is interesting:
maybe it gives an indication of the type of methods involved in the $100000 one.

Each spread focuses on one destination, and the intricate artwork gives readers a visual flavour of the place, with masses to look at and discover the more you look. There are links from one place to the next - historical, geographical, natural history or just simple proximity - for example, there is an ancient Egyptian obelisk in NY's central park, with two sister obelisks in Paris and London. Find the one in the Central Park using Google[trademark] Earth co-ordinates and it gives you the clue to where you will be going next. The pyramids at the Louvre in Paris will whisk you off to the temples of Ancient Egypt, then find a connection from the Colosseum of Ancient Rome to the hot plains of Tanzania that team with wildlife, from flocks of flamingos to herds of wildebeest to prides of lions. And so on...In each location you have to find a souvenir to take with you. You will also need to solve a puzzle with the help of Google[trademark] Earth to collect co-ordinates for your final secret location - again on Google[trademark] Earth. For instance, the puzzle tells you to visit the Statue of Liberty on Google[trademark] Earth and to count the number of points on its crown. This number is one of the co-ordinates you need to find your final destination on Google[trademark] Earth at the end of the book.

I don't suppose Clive Gifford could be Clifford Irving, it almost anagrams. Bit like one of his non anagramming anagrams.

Well the left over letters from the name anagram are also interesting TIM

as you know they are IRE

Which can be in Geographical terms : Abbreviation for Ireland , A mountain in France , A town in Oye Nigeria
