    Linz,

I googled Carlton Publishing and it seemed to be available. No comment about pre-ordering. Like you I'm keen to give it a go.

Sorry, forgot to mention: publication date 14th April 2011, so it must be available now.

According to Amazon, the title won't be released until September 1, 2011

    Default Two Books

It is easy to get this mixed up, because there are 2 very similar titles, both published by Carlton Books. The cover art is almost identical, so it's kind of confusing.

This one is out now- "The Great Global Puzzle Challenge with Google Earth". It has no contest or prize.

Carlton Publishing Group - The Great Global Puzzle Challenge with Google Earth

The contest book due in September is "The Great Global Treasure Hunt on Google Earth".

Amazon.com: The Great Global Treasure Hunt on Google Earth: The Interactive Puzzle Quest for a $75,000 Prize (9781590207574): Dedopolus, Jonathan Lucas: Books

Since they are so similar, I wonder if it would be useful to take a look at the Puzzle Challenge to see how that author has utilized Google Earth?

Here's the Official Website for the Treasure Hunt.

The rules on the website still state that the winner will be chosen at random from all correct entries submitted. The author states the puzzles will be difficult to solve.

    First impressions:
Positives: the website and rules look pretty good - the solution is in a very specific format and only one entry per person so that stops a lot of fannying around.
Negatives: the author states that he will introduce red herrings, and hopefully there is some sort of confirmation email that you have successfully made an application - it would be bad to miss out because of a dodgy web app.

Hey folks. Stumbled over y'all here, and it looked too much fun not to come join in. Plus I have this bit to share:

The Great Global Puzzle Challenge is a kid's book. It's designed on more or less the same concept, but watered down for the young'uns, using cartoon-like images.

I was wondering about the random selection of the winner -- seems it would be illegal in the states -- so I asked the author, via the email address on his website. He said:

Carlton did want to choose the winner randomly, but that has not proved possible. So we're back to the first correct solution received, which is more than fine by me. The submitted answers will all be kept secret until the competition closes, at which point they'll be checked. I'll make sure everyone who gets it right gets at least some acknowledgement. If it's not too many people, I'll even print up certificates myself if I have to!
