    Hi Batrachian,

Welcome to Tweleve! Thanks so much for posting the author's response. This information really makes a big difference. The rules on the Official website still say "at random", but they were last modified in April. Hopefully, they will be updated before the start of the contest.

    Default Overlook Press

The US version of this book was supposed to have been published by Overlook Press, but there must be some issue because the Amazon US page has disappeared. There is a US page for the Carlton press edition, but it is not taking pre-orders, just offering Email notification when available.

Amazon.com: Great Global Treasure Hunt on Google Earth (9781847329097): Tim Dedopulos: Books

Amazon UK and Canada haven't changed and still show the book (Carlton) available starting September 1.

    Default US Book Edition

A couple of days ago I phoned Overlook Books in NY to ask about the US edition. They confirmed that they were no longer publishing the book due to legal reasons. The man I spoke to didn't elaborate on those reasons. The Amazon US pre-orders were all for the Overlook version, so it doesn't seem possible those orders will be filled.

The Official website now has 3 region portals. One each for the UK, France and Quebec/Canada, but nothing specifically for the United States.

The Great Global Treasure Hunt on Google Earth™

I Emailed the author, Tim Dedopulos, and he very kindly replied right away. He said he would look into the US distribution issue and let me know what's going to be the best way for US citizens to order the book. If I hear anything back, I will post it.

One more thing, the rules posted on the website have not changed and still say the winner will be "selected at random" from all correct entries submitted.

    New articles in The Telegraph:

The Great Global Treasure Hunt on Google Earth - Telegraph

The Telegraph will be posting additional clues for the Treasure Hunt every week. To start things off, Tim Dedopulos has provided a special puzzle for Telegraph readers to solve. The first correct solution picked will win a British Airways trip for two.

The author responded to the US book question on his Facebook page today.

"The US company publishing the book in the States had to withdraw. The book is still available from Amazon.com via third party companies (there are three offering it already), or direct from Amazon.ca. US citizens are eligible to enter. We're very sorry for the chaos."

So, it's good to know those of us in the United State can participate.

I guess we'll have to wait until someone checks the rules in an actual copy of the book to answer the question about the selection of the winner. I have a feeling it is going to turn out to be "at random".

    Hi Maskit,

Glad things should work out for all of you in the US. Must be tricky for the puzzle developers working with different publishing houses and getting everything to be coordinated.

Hope you had a chance to look at the puzzle in the telegraph, it was great. I am really looking forward to the puzzle.

    Hi Linz,

Now, if I can figure out the fastest way for me to order a book, I'll be set! Yes, I saw the Telegraph puzzle. It seemed suspiciously easy, but I'm thinking it was a very good way for the author to show the different methods he's planning on using as a kind of a practice test for the real thing. It was still fun to work out how all the clues fit. I really liked the optical illusions he used for a couple of them.

In replying to others on Facebook, Tim Dedopulos answered my Email questions, but he was gracious enough to send me a personal reply, as well. How nice was that?

I said I would post it, so here it is.

    Hi Again,

I've managed to get some answers out of my publisher. The US publisher had to withdraw, which is why Amazon's preorders vanished. The book is still available through third-party sellers on Amazon.com or direct from the warehouse at Amazon.ca. US citizens are very welcome to take part.

If more than one person gets the correct solution, the winner is going to be selected at random, now. It's changed back and forth a few times, but I'm assured that the final, definitive answer is that it'll be a draw. It seems fairer to me - not everyone will get to the book at the same time, after all. It also makes cooperation more rewarding, and I think that's a good thing!

If you have any other queries, please don't hesitate to ask.

    All the best,
    Tim

I have also received my copy, which arrived yesterday on September 1st. I got my copy from amazon uk for 6.12. I have only had a chance to glance through the pages, but like writerian said its a beautifully illustrated book.
