I agree, there was lots of spurious tangential clues - which work if you are going from answer to clue - but don't if you are starting off without knowing where you are supposed to get to. I have gone back to Toxic Panda.

It would be nice to get something going here on this forum. However, it doesn't seem that too many people here on tweleve are interested. You would think there would be more interest because the prize is large, and it is backed by Google Earth. And you never have to leave your arm chair.

    Yes.

I think page 2 was solvable, just - from Las Vegas roughly SSW using the roads, to Devils Playground using the swings and slides, and then wikipedia it to see that the only dunes mentioned there are Kelso. But it would be better if there was a secondary solution which gave the exact location in long/lat.

As this is supposed to be an easy one - and we can see how stretched the solution path is, then I fear for the later puzzles where the author states that
In later puzzles, you might want to also think about associations one step removed: that is, things that might be associated with things that associate with a given visual element.
which is a recipe for god f***ing awful puzzle making if you ask me.

Has the puzzle been verified as solvable?
    Always the simple questions....

The author's solution for Puzzle 2, which appeared in the Telegraph last week, has now been posted online.

Great Global Treasure Hunt: a date with Dedopulos - Telegraph

Also, Dedopulos is now giving clues via Smooth Radio (UK). You can access the first 2 here:

He does like giving out clues.

I think what's going to happen with this hunt is that everyone is going to have a roughly right bunch of answers but nobody will have the exact right combination (like nobody had Kelso Dunes - and you could argue for other locations near there) and so the author will give more and more clues out and then he'll give one too many clues and everyone will get the answer. So a kind of race. I wish there was more underlying logic to this puzzle, or mathematics or something i could get my teeth into.

I'm enjoying using Google earth but fear this puzzle is just, as Ernest Rutherford would say, an exercise in stamp collecting.

It will be interesting to see the state of the puzzle in February, one month before the deadline.

If you do get something going here for the puzzle let me know I am in. Not sure I trust the solution to the puzzle in the telegraph ...yes it makes sense kind of but hmmm there seemed to be other ideas there too.

Hi all, have been looking all over for some help/pointers about this damned book it's doing my head in. Couldn't get into the other forum mentioned then found this one. Bought the book a week ago and think have made some progress with the first "facing the Gallows" and going by the complexity so far have to agree with post above doubting the "solution" to the second page/puzzle "georgia on my Mind". The author of this book used to write puzzles for MENSA ! and it just seems too simple, one glance at the image tells you it's Las Vegas somewhere. The wee round pictures seem to lead somewhere, as I've found connections that seem to follow a route around an area of a BIG city in England. However I've hit a wall hence why I am here. Anybody want to chip in as I'd love to know whether I'm just chasing ghosts ?

I've been working on this book a lot since I received mine. The other forum has done quite a bit of research, and reached several conclusions with most of the puzzles. However, they seem to be solving only for a location on most of the puzzles. The book states that every puzzle will have a location, but that is not necessarily the answer. The answer could be a person, or a theme.

On that forum, there are several puzzles that seem to be unsolved, and I have concentrated my efforts on those puzzles.

Steve, I am glad that you finally got your book. I'm anxious to find out what you think of it.

tankglasgow, I recommend that you try to join the other forum. I don't know why you can't get in. I joined when I first received my book, but didn't post, as I really had nothing to add while I was playing "catch up". Then I was deleted from their forum. They have a policy there that if you do not post, you are removed from their forum. I don't agree with the policy, but they want everyone to contribute, and feel that it eliminates lurkers. I was able to re-join from another server. Anyway to answer your question about Puzzle 1. Facing the Gallows, the answer is thought to be Stonehenge, as the pencils that are in the traingle form in the bottom right form the shape of the roads that are near Stonehenge. The marble is the location of Stonehenge. But again, like Puzzle 2, this seems too simple. The author stated that the puzzles would get harder as one progressed through the book. But part of me thinks that there is more to some of these puzzles than what appears. This may be what will go into the final solution. Who knows?

One example that I was working on was Puzzle 7, Simply Astounding. The people on the other forum had positively identified the shape in the bottom right to be Hawara, and were satisfied with that answer. I found other elements in the illustration indicative of Venice, Italy, such as teh Triumphal Quadriga, the Torre dell 'Orologio, the Campanile, the crocodile (St. Theodore), and more, plus parts of the text. This does not discount Hawara. But it does seem that some Puzzles have more than one place as an answer. So once a place is identified, that does not mean the puzzle is solved.

It is unfortunate that tweleve has not been following The Great Global Treasure Hunt. At this point, it is beyond catching up to the other forum, so I have been doing my posting there. So if anyone really wants to read what other people's thoughts are on this hunt, and work together to solve it, I suggest looking at Global Treasure Hunt Forum Index page

Yes I agree Genetic Blend maybe too hard to get something started in tweleve at this late stage ...I really should of tried to get something up and running from the start as this is an amazing puzzle I am really enjoying it .

I have almost caught up with all the posts in the other forum and I am really looking forward to being able to fully contribute.

Good Luck Hope you are still enjoying this one too.
