Choose poorly and you could end up digging in the wrong place.

‘I have not said it is buried. I said that I hid it. But that is not to say it is not buried. I just didn’t want to give that as a clue.

‘There have been some who have been within 500 feet because they have told me where they have been.

Others have figured the first two clues and went right past the treasure and didn’t know it.’

In my opinion, waters halt at the apex of a geyser for only the briefest of moments before resuming "travel" again. I am more inclined to believe that the waters halt (sort of) when they hit the ground. But either way, I have been considering the geyser angle as well.

Here's a little something else I have been thinking. The clues don't, in theory at least, have to start anywhere near where the treasure is hidden. The first clue could refer to the warm waters of the Mississippi halting near New Orleans (I wouldn't say they halt there; I'm just using that as an example). In the end, after following the clues correctly, we'll arrive at the treasure, even if the treasure's location is 1,000+ miles west-ish and some north of the first clue's location. This thinking hasn't helped me solve it yet, obviously. I just think about that as a reminder to myself not to be too quick in decreasing my starting search radius.

runningboy, from this quote, I would say that someone would not be walking any great distances, like 1,000 miles westish. I think the clues Fenn has given lead us from one clue, to the next, in that order, all within walking distance beginning with clue one to the end where the treasure can be found. I understand what you are saying, but I think the clues we are given are meant for us to physically go to each of those places. Of course, interpreting the clues to figure out where those places are is the difficult part. I also think that part of Fenn's intention was to get us out into the woods, the desert, the mountains, and all the places in the great outdoors that he loves so much. I don't think he wants us to try to think that perhaps one of the clues could be something 1,000 miles away from the next clue. His clues are places that are physically close together so that a person can walk to all of them.

nice it took you guys awhile,LOL
since 2011 ive had 3 searches by 9 people,on clues i put together,no box of gold
unless one of the groups lied to me,LOL

i to think the clues go as is,no rebus or anagram or substitution type cypher,if the poem has
    a cypher i cant find it,but i cant find a lot of cyphers,so i could be wrong

i asked a stranger about where warm water halts,he replied, "the faucet why do i win something"
and it only took him like 30 sec to respond

The term Undine comes from the Latin root unda which means "wave."

UNDER is a synonym of BELOW and is phonetically equivalent to UNDA.

    UNDINE FALLS might be indicated.

For those who have the book, 'For Whom the Bell Tolls' by Hemingway is mentioned on page 10.....at the beginning of that book, is the famous quote by John Donne.

Thanks, Jenny. Good catch. I wonder if his "17th Meditation" has any link. (I'm betting not, the poem should contain most of the information by itself).
