    I have been working on this hunt. I would like to bounce some ideas back and forth. I will share something I found to start things off. Forrest's best friend was Eric Sloane, which is his artist name. His birth name is Everard Jean Hinrichs. Forrest wrote a tribute book to him titled "Seventeen Dollars a Square Inch - A Personal Tribute to Eric Sloane". He also references it and excerpts it in his treasure blog on the Old Santa Fe Trading Co. Incidentally notice the line in the poem "If you are BRAVE and in the WOOD, I give you TITLE to the gold".... Eric's real name Everard means BRAVE, strong boar. Also in the line "The end is EVER DRAwing nigh" .....notice that EVER and ARD which is backwards as it is in the word DRAwing right beside or near (NIGH) it. I also think DRAWING NIGH can be a clue as in a drawing of Eric Sloane's or some type of drawing could be near the treasure spot. I also noted that brave could also mean Indian brave and there is a picture of a cigar store indian in a link from Forrest Fenn's blog under the name Americana which by the way also belonged to Eric Sloane. After clicking on the indian there is a link on the page to the tribute book Fenn wrote which also by the way shares the same cover picture (Autumn Sunset) as Eric's last book titled Eighty: An American Souvenir. Could this painting that is shared on both Fenn and Sloane's books be a clue to the TITLE to the gold? Also note that the word AMERICAN is the word where Eric got his name. He took it from the middle of the word. His last name he took from a teacher/mentor he had with the last name Sloane. He also signed some of his work with his real initials EJH and with Eric Sloane or Sloane but in a different corner of the painting or drawing. Another book Sloane wrote was called A Reverence for Wood. That is also interesting. He also in that book has his own poem .....
    The heft and feel of a well-worn handle,
    The sight of shavings that curl from a blade;
    The logs in the woodpile, the sentiment of huge
    beams in an old-fashioned house;
    The smell of fresh cut timber and the pungent
    fragrance of burning leaves;
    The crackle of kindling and the hiss of burning logs.
    Abundant to all the needs of man, how poor the world
    would be without wood.
    ---Everard Hinrichs

    Another tidbit I found is that the word blaze can also mean a path or route, a flame, or a place marked on a tree. If the latter is what Fenn means we could be looking for Eric's initials EJH instead of FF.
    If anyone would like to work on this with me please give me our input on this.

    Another thing I found was in the line "And HINt of RICHeS new and old." There is HINRICHS.

    The line "So hear me now and lisTen good," ...... Well if you listen you won't hear the T, it is silent. I think this is either pointing to T as a clue or Silent as a clue. Probably the clue is SILENT and it is the reaaranged word that comes from the word LISTEN.

    Also Eric's last name has a silent E added to the end of his name. SLOANE. His mentor's name was Sloan.

    Hello wv,

    Some very nice comments and exploring there, with the last few posts. Good research on Hinrich as well. I'll try to keep these in mind.

    I was also thinking of the play on TITLE, as in the name of the book.

    And, "in the wood" as it relates to "FORREST" "FEN(n)"

    f ORRES t, as ORO is spanish for GOLD, and the ORRES is almost Latin for "barn" (in the wood).

    I'm confident that he buried quite a bit of play in his poem, but which will shake out and and which will stick remains to be seen.

    Thanks again,
    astree

    PS - only bit that worries me a bit, is "in the wood" could be "sap"

    Thanks Astree, I like how you are working with his name and I'll work more on that. Thanks for giving some input. It seems no one else is doing that on here right now.

    The lack of interest in a hunt this size is astsounding. Leaves more for you.

    There's a new magazine article on this hunt if you're interested.

    That's one of the ways I was looking at it.

    Sorry, wanted to give you the link before, but was on a sartphone trying to swipe-type and it was saying some pretty bizarre things (that I didn't intend).

    Now I'm in cut-and-paste heaven again .. (almost West Virginia)
