    Default Historical Hunt

Does anyone have background on this hunt? It looks as if an ongoing series is planned.

It appears that there have been a few hunts in Connecticut, and more are in the works for Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Five increasingly specific clues lead treasure seekers to a specially marked coin (called a "milling") hidden on public land.

If I understand correctly, a photo of the recovered coin entitles the finder to win an old bank note worth $100+ to collectors.

I learned of the hunt through a banner ad on Tweleve, but a search on "Historical Hunt" did not produce an existing thread or discussion. Sorry if I'm duplicating an existing forum.

If anyone is in CT, I have a an idea of the town where the "A DARK PLACE" treasure is buried. But the clues still need to be narrowed down further. PM me if you are interested.

I am very pleased to report that I just won the first Massachusetts hunt promoted on this site: The Forgotten Man. I had a great time, the website notified me immediately (and "closed" the hunt in the sense that the treasure is claimed) and I look forward to receiving by mail the silver certificate (reported value $150) offered as the prize.

The hidden milling rock is still in place, so other treasure hunters can have the fun of solving the clues and finding the site, even though there will not be a prize for future treasure hunters. The website does not seem to post solutions to the hunts, only to indicate which ones are active and which ones are solved. If you want to check whether your solution is correct without making the trip to the site, you can find the solutions by going to the Historical Hunt page on Facebook.

I think it's o.k. that I post the clues that I followed here to give you a taste of what to expect, although I recommend that you register at the Historical Hunt website so you can see the photo that provides necessary specifics about the treasure site.

The site indicates that the 3D treasure hunts are done for the season, but Internet hunts will begin in early November. The physical hunts have all been in CT, RI and MA, but I assume people anywhere in the U.S. can participate in the Internet hunts.

I would personally recommend this hunt. It is a lot of fun and comes with a historically-appropriate prize.

Greetings to all current and future hunters.

I'd like to give everyone some background on our site called historicalhunt.com. I was referred to this thread by one of our winners, Puma Lion, and decided to give everyone a proper introduction.

Historical Hunt is based strictly on historic research. Initially, it was to be based on 'Land Hunts', meaning a prospective hunter had to physically locate an area and find a hidden code engraved in a rock. Land Hunts took hunters to historic sites throughout Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. The prize for successfully completing a hunt was also based on history and in all cases have been historic US paper money. Every Land Hunt had a difficulty level (easy, moderate, hard) in regards to solving clues. It also had a stamina level (easy, moderate, hard) in regards to the terrain and walking distance to the historic location.

Now that winter in closing in, we decided to pause our Land Hunts and begin our Internet Hunts (which is tentatively scheduled to begin on November 11, 2012).

Internet Hunts are very similar to our Land Hunts, but will not require any outside hunting. It will be based entirely on internet research and all will be referencing history. Our Internet Hunts are comprised of questions, lots of questions, and each question will have a point value based on difficulty. The easier the question, the lower the point value. The more difficult the question, the higher the point value.

Our Internet Hunts will be going on all winter long with questions appearing randomly throughout any given day with no set frequency.

There will be three top winners at the end of the Internet Hunt (date has yet to be determined). The winners will be based on their accumulated point value. The three top winners will receive the prize of Historic US paper money (which has not been determined yet). What we can say about the prize is that it will be worth AT THE MINIMUM $300 (1st Prize), $150 (2nd Prize), and $50 (3rd Prize). These prize amounts will grow as more people participate in our Internet Hunts.

Please visit our website for more information. If you have not registered yet and are planning on participating please do so. Our website is secure and all information is used solely for notifications, updates, and verification purposes.
