I know there's been a lot of talk about rocket scientists lately, so I thought I would share the following pm which was sent to me on 7-1-05 by the woman I identified awhile back as the first Spider solver. I'm sure the mods here can verify that if necessary. She solved the puzzle on the evening of 6/21 and she andher husband and their children went to the park to search on 6/23. Timing is everything, I guess. Congratulations again to the token finders because they did get to the token first, but it looks like a homemaker beat them to the actual solve. I hope this will provide renewed optimism for all us "normal" folks for the next hunt.

    Cheers,
    Shred

The solution is from looking at the spaces that the x's make in the knots. Only look at the position that the red is in- the middle position is 5, the upper left 1, upper right 2, lower left 3 lower right 5. As you go around the border, turn the page so that the arrows all point up and down and the positions will be in the right place. If you start with the first knot at the top of page 21- you will see red in position 1 and 4- but that's the wrong combo- start with 4, 4 (using half that knot and the next knot) to get T. You will then get another T then S then F O R T- as you turn the page you will get SP then Picnic area and the rest of the message including the first part of the park name which begins on page 20- I'm just replicating exactly how I got it. Maybe it when missing accidentally when my 3 year old was trying to skip stones into the creek "oooh look, mommy, a shiny one!" Splash. Oh well.
[quote="buckabuie"]oops the lower right position corresponds to 4 not 5[/quote

When we left, I was so sure we had checked thoroughly, that I figured someone had to have beaten us to it. The park is small with only 2 marked picnic areas on the park map- we found 3 picnic areas, though, and checked them all- also a lone picnic table by the visitor's center and 3 lone tables by Prickett's log cabin (nowhere near a road though). I am really curious to know which tree it was found in. The area the fairy is pointing to in relation to Prickett's Fort Rd is a steep hill with a large drainage ditch at the bottom by the road- past the picnic area across from an old cemetary. The shape of the picnic area near the road (where almost every tree had great knotholes) matches the green shape made between the F and the leaf/ vine- with the leaf/ vine being a creek and the F part being a road. This can be seen with the map that the visitor's center gives out. I can't wait to know where it was!

Thanks for the Hurricane Katrina post. My family and I evacuated last Sunday to Baton Rouge. We are all safe. My parents house and my sisters house are still under water. They lost everything including a car. We are living with another sister here with 17 adults and childred, trying to find separate homes till we can get back. The stress and tension is becoming overwhelming. I wish his hunt as till on, to pass the time.

Also wondering about the other New Orleanians fromt his board and their well
being. Hope to hear from you all.

I'm so glad all of you are safe, but sorry to hear about your parents and sister's houses! I hope everything works out for all of you soon!

As for the status of other Tweleve members in LA, most of the posts are in the 'New Ideas' folder, in the 'Doc' thread, but they're getting scattered all over the forum. We need a new folder, just for this! God bless, and keep all of you safe!
