Here is a pic that I took at Pricketts Fort of what was shown on CBS Sunday Morning as "the tree":

UGH! I'll try to remember what I posted before.

Tim Stone and son, Todd, solved the Spider puzzle on June 22, after working on it for 3 weeks. Tim called his friend/co-worker/fellow hunter, Scott Kunze. They all live in Tucson Arizona. Scott called his brother (no name mentioned) in Wisconsin, to go retrieve the token in Virginia. Tim and Scott are Electronic Technicians... 'Rocket Scientists'!

It was stated that all *12* tokens had been found... No mention of Pook's token. Stadther said the next hunt will have 100 rings valued at $3 million, and promised the puzzles are as easy as ATT. Yeah, so easy, even a 'Rocket Scientist' can solve it!

So, who is Tim Stone and Scott Kunze? Rocket Scientists, or not, I don't believe for a minute that they solved it on their own, without help from the forums! Are they laying low for fear of being disqualified for not solving it completely on their own? I guess I would too, with $450,000 at stake!

Default Parts of CBS show were live

I know that parts of the CBS show were live (and parts were obviously very old). I stopped in danbury to visit the beetle and other jewels for the first time with my daughters. Bob Underhill mentioned that they had to get the jewels on the road at 4:30 am to get them there for the show. So those shots with the armed guards were live.

BTW, the jewels are AMAZING in person. The book photos were taken at the last second before publication and don't capture the beauty of many of them. I was really in awe.

Did anyone record it by any chance? Maybe make it available somewhere? I totally forgot about it and would love to see it....

I recorded it on my VCR, but have no way of distributing it. Sorry!

Rik, Destructo's second link is actually a transcript of the show. It's pretty much verbatim what was said. The film footage was the best part, though.

I liked the part where MS and his wife Helen were shown at their house, or in their neighborhood. They seem like real folks, not so different than everyone else. The interviewer asked Helen if she ever thought he was crazy for doing this for those seven years, and she laughed and said he's always been "a little weird". Misty looks so much like Pook.

Yeah that was great at the end when the spider solvers said the solution was "very easy". And the interviewer ended with, "Yes, so easy, rocket scientists could do it."

If you think about it though, the spider solution was so hard BECAUSE it was so much simpler than it looked. It's just that there were so many things to distract you away from the key inner-diamond-pattern. (Can't help mentioning this side-note--maybe the rest of you noticed this too--In the illustrations of the spider creature elsewhere in the book, there are only 5 diamond-squares drawn on the spider's back--as a clue to use just the 5.) I guess that's what they meant by "easy".

Here is a quote from the transcript:

"It took them three weeks spending every spare minute to figure that out."

"easy" is usually something seen in retrospect. I'm wondering, however, how many 'spare minutes' does a rocket scientist have?

Elrohir, do you have any pics of that tree that go higher up? Or from the other side? I'm wondering if that is the tree from page 27? The picture on page 27 shows a flaring of the trunk at the ground. I see a similar feature in your picture, but the flare is on the other side. Of course that would also mean a knothole on the other side.
