The website is back up, so maybe this hunt is still alive. No additional clue or note though.

    Default Time for a solution!

According to the rules, the Grandpa Thrifty Treasure Hunt runs "until the medallion is found and finder verified, or until December 31, 2015 (the 'End Date'), whichever is sooner."

I'm assuming that the author went out to the treasure spot in early January to retrieve the medallion. Maybe it was there, maybe it wasn't. Either way, the rules also give a time limit for redeeming the medallion: "If you find the medallion before the End Date, you must initiate redemption within 30 days of finding it. Upon finding the medallion, within 30 days, follow the instructions on the medallion."

So now it's February, 2016. Even if someone found the medallion on 12/31/15, the time limit for redeeming it is over. The rules also say "After the medallion is found (or after the End Date of the Treasure Hunt, whichever is sooner) and the finder verified, the finderís name and the solution to the Treasure Hunt will be published on www.grandpathrifty.com."

So we didn't solve your puzzle, Stanford Squirrel, but we're still interested in the solution! Let's hear it.

Yes, I am also hoping he will update the site. Two weeks ago I emailed the author at the address on the How It Works page but never got a response.

Let me take a guess at what's happening here.

The author behind the Grandpa Thrifty thing probably hoped the book would be a nationwide craze, similar to Masquerade. He probably thought he would sell thousands of copies and net enough money to turn a profit, even if the medallion was found. But, of course, that didn't happen. He promoted the book every way he could think of and he still only managed to sell 100 copies or so. After the cost of publishing and setting up a company, he didn't even come close to breaking even. And having someone find the medallion would put the whole project $10,000 deeper into the hole. So the author just dropped it. He stopped posting new hints, he stopped responding to e-mails, and he washed his hands of the whole thing. It must have been a disappointment. I get all that.

But the hunt is over now and the end date was more than six weeks ago. And the rules explicitly say that a solution will be posted. It wouldn't cost the author anything to publish the solution and he has a legal (and moral) obligation to do so. If need be, we can start calling the registered agent for Puzzle Songs, Inc. (the company behind the book), but I hope it won't come to that. I'm still hoping that the author will act on his own initiative to wrap this all up properly.

There has to be a way to track these people. Puzzle Songs, Inc. should be held accountable.

When the website domain went down I sent a physical letter to that address. I like to think that helped make it come back a few weeks later. I had planned to send a letter again regarding the solution and include a SASE just for good measure, but haven't got around to it yet. Sooner would probably be better than later as the ebook is no longer on Amazon.

Absolutely, they need to post the solution, if not it DOES cast a doubt on other books/hunts of this sort. Hoping you can reach them!
