Though apparently little action here, the third hint for the Grandpa Thrifty hunt has been released. It references Alfred Vail, so his version of Morse code must be used perhaps?

Vail had experimented with another code. It gave every word a letter or every letter a word...sorry it's late here. Similar to today's text talk...i.e. TTYL = Talk to you later. Just a thought for the 3 clue. Can you download the book in pdf or do you have to have a kindle? Snowy

I think yes, you have to buy it for the kindle. However, if you have a kindle account for amazon, there is an application that allows you to read the e-books on a PC. Probably still need to have the kindle, but I'm not 100% sure.

thanks, if anyone knows for sure, let me know, I'd hate to buy it and have nothing to read it with. I love being back in the "hunting mode".

Ok, I have solved this clue, but it's more cryptic than the book. I thought clues were supposed to help solve...

I have also solved the 3rd clue, and I sort of agree with you about the message it gives. But I think I know what it means and what to do next. I hope so anyway lol this one was actually pretty easy keep it up Stanford Squirrel.

Well, I haven't had very much time to work on this lately so I will just post what I got for number three and hopefully someone can figure out what it means or how it is used with the book. The puzzle is indeed Morse code, the first half of the alphabet a-m is DOT and the second half of the alphabet n-z is DASH which gives the answer THERES NO THERE IN THERE. This is very close to the poet Gertrude Stein's quote ("There is no there, there") who was talking about her hometown in Oakland, California, but ironicly there is a THERE in Oakland, California, so could this be a clue that nothing is as it seems in the book, could London, England, really mean the town London in the United States?

So we have a block of 400 letters in a 20 x 20 grid using every letter in the alphabet, with varying frequencies. I have been playing around with rotate & columnar cipher, but haven't had any real luck yet. Some words randomly stand out when I went through Caesar, and it almost seems like a wordsearch...any thoughts?
