    Default Jesse James' Hidden Treasure

    .
I'm not sure if there is a category for this type of hunt, here at tweleve, but this seemed like the best place, for those interested.

There is an on-going (and somewhat long-standing) hunt for purported secret hidden treasure of Jesse James, here in the United States.

The hunt is based on the premise that Jesse James, a famous outlaw, was actually to the Confederacy (one side of the American Civil war in the 1880's) and used his loot to support that cause, and cost of war.

The take of his robberies were hidden in strategic locations, and amounted to millions of dollars. These cache were guarded by sentries, who were paid in much smaller cache, for example, as stored in shallow-hidden Mason jars as gold and silver coins.

    Here are several leads -

    Jesse James's Secret - YouTube

“Jesse James’ Hidden Treasure” Aires On History Channel - Thaindian News

That some recovery of the smaller (sentry payment) cache is recorded on the History Channel special is quite interesting in itself, lending the credence to support the hunt. The filmed documentation does not appear to be staged.

Part of the mystery of this treasure is interweaved with the rumour of the survival of Jesse James, past a purported faked death at the hands of Bob Ford in 1882. Surviving under an alias until the 1920's. There is conflicting information from DNA and family history records.

Either way, the possible existence of the treasure is worth a look.

    Hi seikialice88,

Thanks, and welcome to tweleve. In addition to the many shipwreck treasures (e.g., the Carribean / Florida Coast) here in the U.S., there are numerous other instances of treasures that were buried intentionally.

    Sometimes recovered ...

Gardiners Island - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    Sometimes not ...

And sometimes dubious, as in the case of the Beale ciphers.

The technologies today give an edge to a treasure hunter who has the desire (and time) to pursue these.

Just looked at it real quick on Wikipedia, and noticed something rather glaring. astree, are you in this hunt for the money, or just to get it solved historically whether he might have dodged the bullet? I think I could assert he might have. Shall I post publically, or toss it to you, first?

Never mind. I did some more cross-checking on where Wiki sourced its information from, and that source looks to be questionable, if not an outright deliberate error. (Grrrrrrr!) Does anybody have a lead to what the original tombstone really said, like a museum-owned grave rubbing that might have been later photographed or something? The tombstone that is shown on several sites looks to be the newer replacement after vandal took their toll on the first.
