    Default MYMRLYVR?

There is what I believe to be a cipher on one of the stuffed Pook's tags. There are 2 tags, one standard and one that says:

    Pook
    atreasurestrove.com
    MYMRLYVR

I believe I might have decrypted this to be a red herring.

There is only one word I have found in this text using sub/shift ciphers. That word is 'pipeline'. I think 'pipeline' is the single best word to describe Hawaii and Alaska the 2 states we know don't hold a treasure. Considering Mike knew we all wouldnt get one I consider this not only a red herring but a type of 'joke'. :P

Another interesting thing about this particular decryption is the 'twist' on the simple sub/shift cipher. The key used to decrypt this message doesnt substitue every letter. In fact, L=L in 'pipeline'. A "combocipher" like the we fit j box shift/caesar. I believe we will be seeing more of the combo ciphers and less (if any) of the standard ones. :P

If most of them are combos, how are we supposed to even know that, let alone solve it?!
    Or am I just paranoid...

    *Of course*

It's not a combo. I decoded that yesterday to 'THIRTEEN'.

How did you get THIRTEEN from MYMRLYVR?

Vigenere cipher - it's in the companion book. Key = treasure.

    Default cipher

I know I am new at this cipher stuff, but I created a spreadsheet to do it automatically for me, and it works on the companion book cyphers.

For MYMRLYVR to be THIRTEEN, the key would have to be HJWAIGJW

what did I do wrong if it does work out to be thirteen?

    Wilhouse,
I'm new to ciphers, too, but I'm getting better... LOL
Just look in the companion book, at P49... Keep in mind that TREASURE is the key word (just like the example):

    TREASURE
    MYMRLYVR

Look for the 'T' in the left column (row 20), and look in that row for 'M'... Then (keeping your eye in that column), look all the way to the top and you'll see 'T'... Then look for 'R' in the left column (row 18 ), and look for the 'Y', then look at the top and see 'H'... Keep doing this with the remaining 6 letters and you'll end up with THIRTEEN!
