    fools... -

MS has stated that the profits all go to environmental charities, and the story and illustrations will be enjoyable for kids long after the hunt is over. The hunt's endpoint is inevitable as all of the tokens are eventually being found...how else could this play out?

MS is already at work on the next hunt, so that folks who came late to this party will have an opportunity to jump in at the starting line next time. I guess I don't understand your beef. (?)

I am not so sure I buy into this thought. I know there are a million parents who will tell me otherwise...but in a year or so when my son is able to sit through this story I am not so sure he will be that impressed. To be honest I'd bet there arent many people anywhere who bought the book for the story and the illustrations. I am sure MS likes to think there are though.

    fenix -

I don't doubt for a minute that the vast majority of MS's book buyers thus far have done so due to the intrigue of the treasure hunt. But after the hunt is over, I think the book will still stand on its own merits as a nice children's story - with the added interest that it was once the source of a real-life treasure hunt. Everybody has different taste in literature, I agee, and maybe the book will not be your child's cup of tea. At 18 months, my son is a bit young to follow the story line just yet, but he already enjoys the illustrations. I look forward to reading the story to him when he is older and telling him about my participation in the treasure hunt.

Whatever your opinion of the hunt or the book, I hope you'll agree that MS deserves a great deal of credit for his creativity and innovation. A children's book, a national treasure hunt, $ to environmental charities. I just have a hard time finding fault with any of that.

    Best wishes,

I bought the book for my son - to encourage him to read over the summer. He's having fun reading and finding the hidden creatures and messages. The extra fun of the "real" treasure hunt has resulted in at least one great family weekend trip. This book was the best $26 I have spent - and I think I'll order a stuffed Pook just as a keepsake.

I ordered a "plushy Pook" and he sits on my desk with an unending smile as I pour over the puzzles. He's very cute! The only thing I would have added is a little sound box inside him that says "Uff" when you squeeze him!

    Cheers,

shred - I think that is the best idea I've read lately
You should tell MS about it -- and tell him I want three!

I would have to agree about the amount of good that this book has accomplished...but I would also have to agree with those who were disappointed by the literary aptitude shown in the storyline. The story is pretty weak...but I suppose the story was really a secondary thought to this whole project..right?
