    Default shows 29-day lunar cycle

    Gee I have no idea where to start looking for clues in this book! So I guess the prologue...well this is the only thing that pops out at me so far: this obviously shows the 29-day lunar cycle, and a time period of one month. Starting with New Moon ("dark moon") on the left, going up clockwise through Full Moon on the very top, then back through down on the right through the waning moon back to the New Noon again. Even though the diagram shows a half circle, this shows a cycle in full circle. This 29-day lunar cycle is the basis of the monthly calendar. (The word "month" comes from "moon".)

    One thing in the story line really bugs me about the 3 eclipses and the "syzygy". In real life, a solar eclipse would never happen the day after a lunar eclipse. There could never be 3 eclipses in a row like this in one night/day/night stretch. Solar eclipses always happen on a New Moon, lunar eclipses always happen on a Full Moon. Usually when there is a solar eclipse, there is a lunar eclipse two weeks later. Seems like that would be something MS would know about. I wonder if this discrepancy is supposed to be some kind of a clue? Or is he just using artistic license?

    Spiggan,
    I believe MS is using artistic lisence with this. After all, he is definately using artistic lisence with the whole talking animals thing, lol. What if the moon chart here was showing us another ambigram/ same backwards as forwards thing...I feel like that is a definate recurring theme of the book. Why else would it be referenced with Dar, with the Chapter titles, with MS's name in the preface, and everything else? To me, it seems as if we need to examine the back of the book (the spells part) and solve that chunk of text. That has to be a major clue because he couldn't fit clues for all 100 rings in the rest of the illustrations combined! I see maybe 5-10 codes in the illustrations (no idea on how to solve them yet, lol) but my opinion is that the bulk of the rings locations (or whatever it is) is in the back of the book. However, I still am at a loss as how to explain the Red Hare Ring...
    anyways, just some thoughts and ramblings!

    Anyone know (or think they know lol) what the background is in the border on page 12? The green and red part?? I do know that one side of the border is a mirror image of the other side. But what is it? Please don't say "just scribbles."

    The fact that there are 29 moons suggests it is the moon phases cycle. But the pictures are not of moon phases. Rather, they are eclipse images. The odd thing is, it goes in reverse. It goes from eclipsed to full moon back to eclipsed. This had bugged me since seeing the Dar preview on the website.
