On the cryptex page there is a rectangle with a number 2 and 4 combined, and letters using an old font or language. Also, no. 98460, (maybe Tacoma, Washington zip code.) Don't think to hard to solve the cryptex.

The cryptex is just for fun, as far as I can tell. However, according to the rules, there are additional clues on the website and the sponsor's websites as to the order of the keys. It is very possible that these are some of thos clues.

Those symbols are alchemy symbols. The last symbol is the alchemy symbol for Gold or Sun, and the next to last is either the symbol for male or female I forget which one? On a side note... I completed the cryptext in 1 min 36 secs

Since we are analyzing these symbols, they are in order:

    Tin,Lead,Antimony,Quicklime(?),Iron,?,?,Copper,Gol d

I've seen the ones that look like "P" but I can't place them. Some of these could also represent planets. Some of the symbols are also used for other things such as the male symbol stated above. I guess we'll have to see when the book comes out if this will be important or not.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

It looks like the 2 and 4 combo symbol represents tin dominated by Jupiter. The others are listed here.

    Hiya,

I think you are right there dawnplayer and the symbol for Jupiter (♃) represents Jupiter's thunder bolt, the Z of Zeus Jupiter's Greek name, but more interestingly, it also represents an Eagle!

See the Wikipedia article on Astronomical Symbols.

There are (at least) two large flaws with this hunt:
    1. no cash substitution for prizes
    2. taxes may need to be paid up front

While some may be able to front the taxes for a $20k prize, how many can do it for a $1M prize?

    Hi Ace,

I think Pluto is represented by the 'underscored P' symbol ( ), but I'm struggling to place that other "P" like symbol too.

I'm also wondering about the layout of those symbols, apart from TIN the rest appear to be grouped in pairs.

Anyway, I have a similar list to yours, but mine goes:

    | Tin | Lead, Antimony - Neptunium, Iron - Plutonium, ?? - Copper, Gold |

As you say, some of the symbols are used for other things but I'm wondering, as these are elements on the Periodic Table, perhaps we should be using their Atomic Numbers, if that is the case then my list looks like this:

    | 50 | 82,51 - 93,26 - 94,?? - 55,79 |

As for what this means (if anything) I think, as you say, we're just going to have to wait on the book landing on our doormats

I didn't like the "no cash substitution rule" either, considering I'm not working right now and could have really used the money. However, God Bless Canada, as we don't have to pay taxes on contest winnings!

Hi I was just wondering if in fact Mel Fisher's Treasures did donate an emerald to The Worlds Greatest Treasure Hunt. I just learned about this book and wanted to know the legitimacy of this "hunt". Thanks in advance for any information provided.

    Reply:
We did in fact donate the emerald. We know Ron Shore well and the hunt is legitimate. I have personally seen the eagle and it is beautiful. We even have the press release listed on our website. The latest news - Mel Fisher's Treasures Best of luck.

You are correct, it is Pluto. If that's the case, then these are more likely Planetary symbols. That would mean they are the following:

    Jupiter Saturn,Earth Neptune,Mars Pluto,? Venus,Sun

I still don't know what the other "p" symbol is. The only planets left are Mercury, Uranus, or the moon, but they all have different symbols. It looks a little like the Futhark rune Thorn, but rounded. Perhaps it's the symbol they gave to one of the new planets they found beyond Pluto?
