Quest for the Golden Eagle

Thought you might like to know about a new hunt I've just subscribed to which looks its scheduled to get underway this Fall (Autumn?) .

Billed as "The World's Greatest Treasure Hunt: Quest for the Golden Eagle", the website goes on to say that it directly benefits the Hunt for the Cause Foundation, which seeks to raise funds for research for the prevention, early detection and cure for breast cancer and their ultimate aim is to raise $100 Million to fund research for a cure.

To enter the hunt you have to read a (yet unavailable) book called The Ultimate Treasure Hunt which consists of 12 chapters. The targeted date for the book release is Fall 2009.

According to the website, the hunt is open to anyone from any country (see rules for limitations) and the prize for being the first to solve the clues in each chapter is a solid silver eagle (one for each chapter). Each Silver Eagle is valued at approximately $20,000 US.

The grand prize of The World's Greatest Treasure Hunt is a Golden Eagle which is valued at more than $1 million US dollars.

I just took a quick look at this. Looks interesting, but I am already questioning the quality considering there is a huge mistake right on the promo page. They have Oak Island listed with Toronto. Toronto is in Ontario, Oak Island is in Nova Scotia: about a 22 hour drive away. Unless the cities listed are where the Silver Eagles are hidden, in which case I'd be really interested as I live just outside of Toronto. I also like that this is helping a charity, as long as it isn't a scam. As I said, I just took a quick glance. Did it say anywhere how much the book would cost? I'm going to take a longer look when I have time. Thanks for the heads up!

The News pages have recently been updated 23rd Oct and 2nd Nov. Apparently, the books are now being printed and the diamonds are being set in the golden statues.

As Chapter 1 is about DB Cooper, a notorious hijacker who hijacked a Northwest Airlines flight and then parachuted into oblivion you might be interested to know that National Geographic are airing a documentary called The Skyjacker That Got Away (in the USA) at 4pm on Sunday 8th Nov and again on Sunday 29th Nov at 10pm.

Which, coincidentally, is all about DB Cooper! Hopefully they will get round to airing it in the UK soon.

This seems like an interesting treasure hunt, at least regarding it's thematic.
Is there any other such hunts that has book for clues and website for providing answers?

Anyone notice the conflicting dates on this hunt.

When you click Pre-Order you get advised that the target release is 1st December yet yesterday the News page was updated with an annoucement that the official launch will be 1st Feb 2010.

So I guess we'll be able to get a copy sometime between those dates?

Probably it will be at the date from the news.
I didn't noticed this info before.
Will have to entertain myself with some other hunt till then.

Preordering opens on Dec 1st. If you order before Dec. 15th you get free shipping. The books will be shipped one week before Feb 1st when the hunt is released.

Hello, this is my first post to the forum!

The book release is in fact Feb. 1st 2010. This is an exciting hunt, as part of the goal is to raise $100 million for breast cancer research. The book is now available for pre-order.

The reason for the conflicting part with Toronto in Ontario, Oak Island in Nova Scotia, is that it is writing as "The real story / our story" format. So the actual treasure itself is hidden within 250 miles of Toronto! But the "real story" is of "The “Money Pit” of Oak Island, Nova Scotia, has captured the imaginations of several generations of treasure-seekers."
