Hallo merelyviral, in the archives there's only the clue "1996 like a rock", but no possibility to open the link. I googled that one and got information about "The Lone Star" with carats I posted before. Greetings from Innsbruck, Austria

Can anyone help. A question asks for the roman leader who was assassinated as the latin phrase used for a previous question was uttered. Surely it was JC 6 letters in each word.
why is this incorrect Ta david

Click the Cryptex link and then enter the answer to the question.

Dear Prudence, thanks for your answer. However the cryptex was not offered when I entered my answer. What I have done wrong?

Sorry I was wrong, it's the 17th question that opens the cryptex. Perhaps you do have a spelling mistake in your answer. The answer is J..... C.....

That's just an awful clue. I didn't understand it until after I had the question solved, and sat back and studied it for awhile.
I solved the clue easily enough using simple substitution but never did figure out what the hint meant!

There's a really useful tool for solving cryptograms here: Cipher Tools

If you looked at the complete substitution, that is wrote the alphabet down and below it write what was substituted, every other letter was? That was the clue.

Hi everyone!

I' m new to the hunt. The first 2 chapters passed by fairly easily, however, I'm banging my head against my desk trying to figure out the password/poem for Chapter 3. I've tried using different ciphers and such on the extra letters from the chapter. I've used just the capital letters, just lower case and the two combined. Am I missing something completely obvious here? A nudge in any direction would be great. Thanks!

10. Welcome, jmgirl! The cipher used in this chapter is a fairly standard one, more common than the one used in chapter two in fact. Here's a website with lots of common ciphers...perhaps it's one of these:

Braingle: Codes, Ciphers, Encryption and Cryptography

If you're still stuck, post again and more gentle pointers will be provided. Good luck!
