Chapter 3 - The California Gold Rush

2. ## C3 - Q9

(hint: every other letter A=A)

That's just an awful clue. I didn't understand it until after I had the question solved, and sat back and studied it for awhile.

3. CAn you solve that question without the A=A?

I spent so much time trying to use the book on that stupid clue...worthless~!

Just went on and did a simple, basic 'cryptogram' type solve.

What I'm stuck on is #15, in doing a search on google, the answers I've found (w/ a 'world record' to boot), just don't fit. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. It asks for 'approx', yet the official wt. is listed, even an earlier article w/ 'an estimate' does not fit!!

I think I found this answer after quite a trawl and then found it quite obviously on the site

The answer to that is found in an article in the archives.

Ch3/Q15 The only clue in the archives I have found, was "1996 this heart can be had for \$ 10m"??? Heart of the ocean, Lady Di, Kennedy- Onassis? A natural and ungraved sapphire? I'm unable to find "approx. carats". Is anyone out there, beeing helpful with this one? Thank you!

Thank you for your quick answer. The other clue, I'v found in the archives was "1996 Like a rock". Maybe this article is talking about "The Lone Star", but neither the rough stone's 23,850 carats nor the polished stone's 9,719.5 carats work. It's driving me crazy. Kindly regards.

how many carats does the article "Like a rock" say?
