Mills,

Once you understand how his puzzle functions, one can pick up on his clues. It's based on lateral thinking and word puzzles. He's also good at disguising his big ideas.

For instance, consider the invisible ink clues at the end of the book. We all thought the ciphers were important. They are, but not the way you originally think.

One of the real clues was that the clues are printed in every which way, or THE CLUES ARE ALL DIRECTIONS. There are a couple of major implications to that, but the one I want to show you is the word CLUES itself.

It breaks down that the word CLUES is literally 'all directions':

L = left
U = up
E = east
S = south

Meaning CLUES = 3 DIRECTIONS. When this is said and done, you will have discovered four sets of three directions which provide the necessary instructions to solve a map.

Let's examine his October 17, 2014 Facebook clue, and I'll show you how these work.

"Riddle me this and riddle me that, the chapter number will play a critical role in where the treasure is at."

This sounds innocuous, but it isn't. The solution to this clue provides the solution to the Chapter 5 map.

'Riddle me this and riddle me that' is pointing you towards the questions at the end of the chapter.

The rest of the clue, like so much else in this game, is a three-part puzzle:

1. The chapter number
2. A critical role
3. Where the treasure is at

This riddle has two different answers.

1. The chapter number is 'C #'. C = 3, and # = 3 on keyboard. '3 3' can be 3+3 or 3x3, both of which arrive at the same answer for this clue. SIX = IS X. Nine = IX or 'first X'. Regardless, 'the chapter number' = X.
2. 'A critical role' in a show is the STAR. As you're aware, in algebra, a star can be substituted for an 'X'. Example: 3 x 4 = 12 or 3 * 4 = 12. 'A critical role' = STAR = X
3. Where the location is at: 'X marks the spot'

The first answer for this riddle is 'XXX'. When you combine this with the first part 'riddle me this and riddle me that' = questions = KEYS, then putting the whole thing together is 'XXX keys'.

The second answer:

1. The chapter number is FIVE
2. The critical role is STAR
3. 'Where the treasure is at' is LOCATION

FIVE STAR LOCATION = RESTAURANT

REST AU RANT.

I'm going to stop it here, because this feels legal up to now. I've been discussing the clue, but after this point we get into the keys for the actual map solution. The next answer solves the map and confirms the solution I submitted yesterday morning.

Keep the faith,

Doc

PS--The 'XXX Keys' is a hint for a set of the 'directions' for the overall solution discussed at the beginning of this post, not the individual chapter answer.

Mr. Shore must monitor this site. I see no negative comments on Facebook and other sites are private. So unless he is receiving negative mail, his team must be seeing the negative comments on the Tweleve site.
I have limited time for reading and puzzling and sorry, but this hunt has lost my intetest. I have purchased multiple copies of the book and gave them as gifts one Christmas when the hunt started. I have two copies myself. One I write notes in and one left pristine in hopes of having him sign it after winning an eagle.
I have been critical of grammatical mistakes and timing or lack thereof with the clues. No more clues could ever be given. No more eagles would ever be won and the hunt would be no more.

Rx,
This is just a treasure hunt. Many hours (days, weeks, years) have gone to preparing everything for this book, clues and hunt I am sure. It's for a good cause, breast cancer research!

If the disease has not touched you or immediate family members yet, then have a heart. I got my money's worth out of this book just with chapter 1. I'll admit I didn't like the answers to the chapters thus far, but it should be about the cause, not the prize.

The fun could just be beginning. I hope those that return this book don't come back. CH5 says so, just toss it in the trash if that's the way you feel. I'll probably need to order another book soon, as mine is almost worn out. 30$ isn't much for a donation, I give as much to my kids for fund raising often.

I think what Ron probably really needs is a buyer for the Golden Eagle. Nobody has answered that call yet. Any ideas out there? Remember that the cause is for breast cancer. It's a good cause for the right reasons.

Default Posting on behalf of an active eagle questor -

A person who hopes to be a regular Twelever is having trouble connecting - she thought she did everything she needed to do to register, but her first attempt to post something was rejected today. While she hopes for suggestions about what she might have done wrong, she asked that I share the following post with this "Quest for the Golden Eagle" forum. I don't yet know her username, so I will try to a that later if she shares it with me.

I can't access the Tweleve website directly (for who knows what reason!) but I thought those of you interested in The World's Greatest Treasure Hunt might be interested in the seeming bait and switch currently being perpetrated on innocent "questors" right now. (You won't find any of it on the WGTH facebook page however, because all dissension in the ranks has been thoroughly stamped out, leaving only the timidly acquiescent in its wake.)

As many of you probably already know, two days ago Ron Shore unveiled a bronze statue as the prize for Chapter 5. Some of us know the value of a bronze statue by an unknown (and not particularly talented) artist when we see one; and some others of us have read the prize descriptions in both the book and on the website (which make no mention of bronze statues at all, and claim that the prizes are 12 silver eagles and a gold, diamond-encrusted eagle for the grand prize) so we, quite reasonably questioned the surprise switch. [Before anyone jumps to the wrong conclusion, I would like to point out that most of the comments were polite -- if rather pointed -- and contained no profanity, insulting language or anything else a reasonable person could possibly object to.]

Immediately, some of the silver eagle winners rushed in to buoy Ron up and tell us all that the real "treasure" was the hunt itself and not the stated prize. (Which I suspect is rather easier to say when you're holding a silver eagle in your hands and want to stay on the author's good side for that gold version.) When several of us politely pointed out that that might be the case for some, but not ALL of us, and that a silver object of any sort is more valuable than a bronze duplicate (not to mention that it is not the prize PROMISED by the book or website), feathers began to ruffle. When I, and a couple of others asked Ron to please explain the substitution and wondered whether there was a problem with the funding of the hunt, like magic all dissenting posts instantly dissappeared! (In fact, it would have been funny if it wasn't so pathetic, but when I commented that my post disappeared, THAT comment disappeared as well.)

Apparently the truth was a bit too hard to handle, so Ron finally chimed in that he had been away from his computer and hadn't seen any of this until that moment but would respond next day from his office -- asking us to all "please take a step back for now".
Almost 23 hours later he posted this... (I am copying directly from the fb page)...

"I would like to clarify two points that have been brought up recently.
1. The first is the length of time that it took to solve Chapter 4. In other treasure hunts where only one prize is given away they tend to last anywhere from one to seven years. So far this treasure hunt has had four prizes given away in five years. These prizes do not just consist of eagles but a flight to the location of the chapter and an amazing experience for the winner. Treasure hunting requires patience.
2. Some comments have been made with regards to this chapter having the gold plated bronze eagle being the prize for Chapter 5. I thought that putting this eagle out as the next prize would be great. It is the eagle featured on the cover of the book. It was also the eagle photographed in each of the locations for the treasure hunt and the one which the silver and gold eagles were patterned after. I’m sorry that there are a few of you that do not appreciate the value of this eagle.
If there are any of you who are disappointed in my decisions or how the treasure hunt is unfolding, I invite you to send your book back for a 100% refund.
Please send your book, name and address to:
The World’s Greatest Treasure Hunt
P.O. Box 2591,
Sumas Washington, USA 98295.
My focus in creating this treasure hunt was, and is, raising money for breast cancer research and creating a fun, interactive treasure hunt. I look forward to seeing Annika, our latest winner in Phoenix, Arizona in November.
Most sincerely,
Ron Shore, Author"
What followed was a bunch of unabashed "boot-licking" that I won't repeat and then this comment that I wrote... (having had some experience with deleted posts, I didn't expect it to last and it didn't -- less that 10 minutes actually) so I copied it in full before posting...

"With all due respect Ron, on point #2, I don't think the question is whether some of us have the "bad taste" to not value the bronze eagle as highly as you do, but rather WHY you substituted it for the silver eagle promised in the book and on the website, and whether that substitution is indicative of a problem down the road with this hunt. I am all for passing this chapter by and waiting for another silver eagle, but I want to know it will be there when the chapter is solved. I also want to know that the Gold eagle actually exists and is not a product of a photo-shopped bronze version covered in cubic zirconia "diamonds". I do not think anyone is being negative or disrespectful by asking these legitimate questions. The hunt promised SILVER eagle prizes, not bronze. It is perfectly reasonable for us to ask why the substitution.

Your response is disrespectful to those of us who believed in you, your cause and this hunt. We bought the book, we told our friends and we have continued the search for solutions to keep the hunt alive. You owe us a respectful and thoughtful answer, not this rather curt "like it or lump it" response. This is not a case of difference in taste, but a deliberate switch of a stated prize for another of lesser value. It is not opinion, but FACT that bronze metal has less value than silver metal. The art value of this or any other statue is purely subjective, and therefore, beside the point.

I want to believe in the integrity of this hunt and the people involved. I want to continue to support this cause (as I said previously -- in one of those responses on the other thread that you deleted -- cancer has touched MY family as well. My aunt and cousin died of breast cancer. My mother survived colon cancer. My other maternal aunt died of ovarian cancer. Believe it or not others of us can also be passionate about ending this awful disease!) But keeping the truth from us is not going to help.

Please answer this direct and very simple question... is there or is there not a silver eagle for each chapter and a gold eagle at the end?"
As I said, my comment (and I will assume any OTHER negative or questioning comments as well) was deleted. I also discovered that I had been permanently blocked from the site.

I will go out on a limb and suggest here that the only reasonable way to view this is that at least the partial answer to my final question is NO. There are no other silver eagles (for reasons I will explain below, the gold eagle may actually exist, but if it is what he claims it to be and not an imitation, then why does he not merely say so and put an end to questions?) What other reason would Mr. Shore have for so aggressively blocking discussion?

It might also interest those of you who may still harbor doubts about the integrity (or lack thereof) of this hunt, that there are currently 3 eagles offered as "for sale" through an art studio at this location:

The Fort Langley Studio
#101 9103 Glover Road
Langley, BC
V1M 2S0
Phone: 604-371-2899

The eagle called "Waiting to soar" is a silver eagle and has probably already been awarded (though the studio website has not updated to reflect that). The "Phoenix" eagle is the gold-covered bronze currently being offered for Chapter 5.
As for the "Maltese Eagle" or golden eagle...

This is why I cannot say absolutely that the gold eagle does not exist. The studio merely "describes" the statues, it mentions that it does not keep them on site and there is no evidence that I could see that anyone at that studio has actually seen or appraised them. (Read the wording carefully, it sounds very much like the descriptions on the website and book so may merely be Ron's own description, given to the studio.) The studio offers to show them by appointment, but that doesn't mean that they have actually seen them or know enough about metallurgy and gemology to tell whether the gems are real or that the silver head is not rhodium or nickel. Let me be absolutely clear. I am not saying they aren't, but that an uninterested 3rd party appraisal would certainly settle the question and bring this hunt back into the "legitimate" realm for many of us.

Anyway, since many of you paid good money for this book and the chance to hunt for real treasure I thought you deserved to be informed about what is going on. You will not see dissent or negativity on that site as it is now heavily censored. It is up to you to find out what is going on on your own. I for one -- since I am being denied my right to that forum which I feel is part and parcel of the treasure hunt I paid good money to participate in -- intend to pursue this to the end. If Ron wants to play childish games instead of allowing us to help him fund-raise and garner good press for the hunt, he may find that some of us know how to fight back. A straight-forward answer is all we asked for and would have been so much easier.

So if I am reading the post correctly, she is banned from the Facebook site?
This will most likely be the last chapter. Glad I moved on.

I was reading the Facebook thread as it evolved and thought it strange that comments had disappeared. I initially assumed they had been removed by the original posters but it now seems certain they were removed by Ron or one of his team. If that's the case then this hunt has lost what little credibility it had left.

The comments on FB were removed by Ron, I can assure you of that.

There has not been an accounting of any money that has gone to breast cancer research. I suspect there has not been any since I doubt there's been a profit.

He could have just answered the question. Are there any silver eagles or not? Lack of an answer speaks for itself.

I think I just found one of the toys Ron threw out of his pram.

More comments deleted from the Facebook page and now it's locked as well.

Something is seriously wrong.
