    Newone,

There is ALOT of information contained the in thread that existed before this nice new home was created for us, which now contained individual threads for each Chapter.

It is definately worth browsing to answer a number of questions not currently found in the individual chapter threads.

    Quest for the Golden Eagle

In relation to C10-Q15. There are ways to go about this.

    1. You can "crack" the code to get the answer. I personally believe this is what the Author intended - to help us understand the process of reverse engineering an encoded message. This isn't the first instance of this Cipher and if you didn't reverse engineer the others previously, this one will certainly provide challenging.

    2. It is certainly possible to guess the password, but you may need to go through a LONG list befeore you get it. You don't get the practice reverse engineering the encoded message this way though....

    3. Another method that someone else discovered ! lol

As for "hints" to help you....

    - The capitalization should help you determine the "theme" of the question
    - That should help you determine the Cipher used
    - Those two should help you reverse engineer, if you've successfully done that on pervious ones....

    Thank You.

Are you really sure that you are talking about Q15 of chap 10?
That one that looks like a playfair and seems not be a playfair if i understood what you said

Seems you were going in the right direction. Don't let my ramblings change your gut feeling. My "clue" is that you need more than just the type of cipher used.. Look at the question - what else can you "guess" at.....

Well, effectively we can guess few words but once i try to break the code...it is as if i was wrong. So right now i still don't get it.
Can you give me one...a long one of course

    Hello BoatDaddy,

I have the feeling of going nowhere one this one !
Is the "theme" you are refering too is generaly found between parentheses ?

    Thanks for your help

    Tomitom,

Yes - you are on the right track with the theme.

If you have a good guess for the capitalized words, but they don't seem to "fit" based on the cipher used - you might ask yourself what would cause that to happen in the encoding of the message?

Ok, so at least i'm not completly off track
The thing is even with that in mind i don't see much that would fit, probably because there's a twist but except from double letters that could mess the thing up i don't have a clue right now , i'll keep trying then !

    Thx again,
    Tom.

When you talk about "what would cause that to happen in the encoding of the message" you're not refering to double-encoding of the message , are you ?
Cause I tried 3 or 4 "simple" possibilities just in case without much result, and thinking of it there would be tons of possibilities ... i'm realy perplex about this one

    Single Cipher.

If you believe you know the cipher used, go read up on it and you will see examples of "extra" things that are added and removed to the original message...

I can't much more without blatently giving it away.

Don't feel discouraged. It took a good amount of time for some of us here to crack this one. Keep working it and you will eventually go AHA !

    Hello BoatDaddy,

Thx for the pointer, I'll search that way then
And the indication is just what I hoped , not too much , not too less

    Tom.
