Chap 11 Q8
Anyone have any thoughts on why one of the codes in Q8 ended the way it did? I'm stumped

Lots of head scratchers throughout the book. If only they tied together...

Q1: Anyone do it the hard way?
I just figured out Q1, which necessitated solving the series of numbers given throughout the chapter.

I solved it by working backwards: I had guessed the author of the poem for Q2, then went through the author's works until I found something that was similar(note "similar", as distinguished from "the same") in the layout of words. After converting the numbers to letters, and then working with part of the poem that I felt was the same as the original, verses the original, I was able to determine enough to find the way to decode the ciphertext, and get the password.

So, my question(s) is(are) this: Did anybody solve this in a different way? Is it even possible to do it without working backwards or being psychic ? Did I miss a hidden clue somewhere?

No, Carolinus, I converted the numbers to letters and used a Vigenere cracker to get part of the keyphrase, which in turn gave me the poem.

I've found nothing in the book as yet, to lead us to the keyphrase, but maybe the keyphrase or where it's from, may help us later in the solving of the maps

Hi how do I edit previous posts?

It says in a box below my post
You may not edit your posts

Can this be changed or do I have to ask a Moderator to edit my posts for me.

A few of the forum sections have a limited editing capability but most do not. Those that do allow one to edit posts for about five minutes. You won't ever see unlimited editing since a poster would be able to delete posts ex post facto, leaving the discussion unintelligible.

Moderators are also not in the habit of editing posts unless they contain offensive material or otherwise break forum rules. Or if you have good blackmail information on them.

So an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Thanks Molnar,

I just wanted to edit out the code type in the 2nd post above as it's a bit of a spoiler, for those who have not done this question yet

Yes, found the sponsors clues - but still have not worked on them as of yet.
Any hints for the above? I have spent many days on this and still cannot get it. Do not know what I am doing wrong.
