I was introducing a friend of mine to this hunt, and I showed him the web site.

I don't know if it's been discussed, but an extra clue has been added to all the optic cross clues. They appear to help one with the individual questions.

The web site. Log in to the great hunt site, and click 'tools'.

You'll see a string of planetary symbols. One of them is 'wrong'--namely, Mercury. There's another one that stands out because it's not there: Earth.

Nice work, Doc. I'd like to add that the symbol for Earth appears when you select one of the Tools. I'm doing some digging for the 'wrong' Mercury symbol, and the closest match I've found so far is a Runic symbol "thorn".

Default Some doubts

I have a real doubt about the hunt principle.
We cannot win with the book only.
Once all the answers found we need to find clues in order to solve the map.
There are so many combinations that we have no other choice than wait for the clues.
And the clues are all under controlled. One give them or not.
So the time all the advirtising is done maybe one give us enough clue to solve the maps.
Is it really a treasure hunt ?

My first post!!! Woohoo!!

Just started this hunt in December, 14 questions to go - time to share...

FWIW, don't know if it's meant to be a clue for us or not, but there is a new FB post - a "small quest": The World's Greatest Treasure Hunt's Photos - Wall Photos | Facebook

Default Clues in summaries

Thank you. I will go back and recheck the summaries - did so already but didn't notice anything. I'm assuming you mean the summaries in the book, not the summaries online(?), which I have also checked and seen nothing in.

Interesting, rhoops. I don't have the book in front of me, but lookign at the Ch. 9 summary online, I can see a couple of interesting bits.

"In a dingy tavern in the dark streets of 17th century Boston, two men meet who have been looking for each other for more than two decades. As the strangers become acquainted, they realize they are on a common quest: to recover a lost map leading to the last of Captain Kidd’s buried treasure."

Kidd was hanged in 1701 (the beginning of the 18th century). If the two men have been looking for the last of Kidd's treasure for more than 20 years, how could they be meeting in the 17th century?

Also, the book calls him "Robert Kidd" (IIRC) while the summary calls him "William Kidd". Why? I understand that he may have called himself "Robert".
