Anyone give any thought to using a Null Cipher on the chapters? It's not a type of cipher that was mentioned in the Cracking the Code book but I thought it might be useful to hide a secret message in the chapters. Anyway, love the discussion lately, seems a few clues were necessary to stir the creative juices.

I've finally figured out how to use the keys mostly, and its not easy. I know it is right because I got an answer that said it was for the fourth key. I'm still working on the sudoku part which might take a bit. It really looks like there is indeed multiple wrong paths that could be taken, so I wouldn't worry too much. I'm pretty sure the keys have to be solved in order. At the end of the hunt I'm sure someone is going to get "your treasure is nothing" or "youve found a red herring" lol! Based on my symmetry thoughts, I think there is another level above the one Doc is working on. This is why more clues are coming.

His examples illustrate some really good points, but I wouldn't use them as answers, there is more to it than that. After really looking at the chapter text and answers (yet again) I've found more clues that say the same thing. I also found the first key, although not the same word that has been suggested.

Don't give up, the clues are sitting right in front of us.

So sorry that what was initially a super fun treasure hunt has bogged down into an abyss of theory with no real way of verification. It's starting to remind us of ALCHEMIST DAR- heaven help us!!! The fact that the first level of the hunt( the trivia questions) were able to be solved, led us to believe that the next leve l(map key placement) would be tougher, but do-able. Since that isn't the case- what do we do now? The clues recently released tell us nothing 1. We didn't already know( The ghost of Cooper past holds your Omega key) 2. we can use ( 12'o clock one) All we know is first is = last and 1,20. Team Meaner has submitted various numerical combinations of the numbers 1-20 to no avail. And it isn't even clear if you must have all 240 trivia questions complete to do each chapter's maps, or just the keys for each chapter. We're sad, mad & frustrated!
"We may not be first, but at least we are not last!" Meaner Simikkles RULE!

The hunt Twitter account posted another recycled clue this morning. Still no help for me.

Are you referring to the 'jeep' clue? I wonder why it's different.....FOR vs. BEFORE

Good question. Apparently we were supposed to be smart enough before to figure out we needed to look (not for), but before the jeep. Which jeep though?

Not sure if anyone else has noticed this, but... The first clue we got about "finding our way on the map" said that first = last. One interpretation of "first = last" is to reverse things (start at the "last"). Now, look at all subsequent clues, and they fall into two categories: those written from left to right, and those written right to left. I don't have all the clues in front of me, but aren't all the "reversed" clues the ones with actual instructions, whereas all the "normal" ones are cryptic and no one seems to understand them? Is it possible that the first=last clue was warning us about red herrings?

"Is it possible that the first=last clue was warning us about red herrings?"

The first=last clue remains the most frustrating clue because it is doubly ambiguous. I consider it completely useless and have ignored it for quite some time in my solutions.

    1. First, you need to work out what FIRST and LASTs it applies to. Keys? Sequences? Keys in sequence(s)? Sentences? Paragraphs? Chapters? Instructions? Other clues? Solutions? Methods? Etc? Ron's shoe size? Symbols on the map? It's likely more than one of these (since many of the clues appear to be multi-use), but not all of these, meaning that you really have no idea if an equality is intended or coincidence if you see it, and never have any idea if constructing one makes any sense. Fun.

    2. Then you need to work out what the equality is. Numeric? Sums of elements? Tenuous semantic relationships? Some cryptographic element? "Equals" usually has pretty strict meaning, but I have no idea if Ron comes from a mathematical background ( 3 = 3, Dog = Dog) , or if he's likely to say that BIRDS and PLANES are equal. Or that "US flag" and "stars and stripes" are equal. Who knows.

    3. Or does first=last simply say "use atbash"? In which case I would say "atbash what, and why?"

Even if you do work out what it applies to, it's hard to know the SCOPE of the application. So let's take a simple interpretation that "first key = last key" in some manner. Well, we know the answer is in equal parts. If we have N parts, does the first part = the last part? Assuming a part consists of multiple keys, what's the nature of the equality? Etc.

So, who knows. I just ignore it since it doesn't say anything.
