# Thread: Extra clue for chapter one

1. ## Extra clue for chapter one

Is this really a 'new" clue? It says the same as the old = the first is equal to the last. Anyone else see something different?

2. Thought I'd use this thread to discuss today's (1/31) facebook clue as well. It certainly looks like the same type of cipher as the poem in chapter 8, and the letters in the code have a reasonable letter distribution...meaning they shouldn't need a secondary solve after they're ordered correctly. It shouldn't be that tricky, but none of the 7 ways that we could divide the lines evenly appears to yield an answer.

Anyone else having an easier time with this clue?

Calvin, I just got home from work, and I'll see what it looks like. Just a cursory glance--it only has 48 letters in the clue? Six spaces given and six capital X's makes me think you're correct about the cipher type.

4. I didn't have any trouble with it. It's very straight forward, and is the same as Chapter 8. In the end, it leaves more questions than answers.

5. Comment on this clue for those who have solved:

What does it mean by ENCRYPT? Surely its supposed to be DECRYPT?

Why would it ever occur to someone to encode something as part of a method to obtain order? To get keys you decrypt, surely.

6. Plus there seem to be 2 bits missing, unless I'm missing something, or it's part of the clue. I did decode but not sure about the possible errors...

Yes. 'Two' missing.

Again.

8. Strange, I must be missing something very obvious. I've tried 2x24, 3x16, 4x12, 6x8, 8x6, 12x4, 16x3, and 24x2...but can't get the right output. Any advice?

Calvin,

Try 8 columns and 7 rows.

There's an extra blank at C6 R1 and C2R2.

This is an AMAZING clue. I love this author.

10. Calvin, the last group is the top of an 8 wide. Or, put the groups in order and read bottom to top. The second group has a space missing.
