Doc,
I see and understand your instructions. A mason puzzle with tap codes. My problem is finding those first instructions in the book which would greatly help. Funny, I went out to find those instructions the other day and found more "third" instructions again. Anyhow, here's something to chew on.
Assuming you are stuck at I LOST X.. and using the information I have, I can take a good guess based on my own instructions.
There is two connections to figure out all three parts. None of this is key sequences, just meta puzzles to figure out. This is one of the "three":
This might relate with my earlier comments of "what comes before U"
before u = B four E (i moved the u character) --> four(4)=D --> B_DE = .. I think the meta sequence is DBC as in DB Cooper.
The third "C" (03) relates to the second sudoku puzzle which is Q13 and the national treasure facebook clue. Note that O=middle=omega. zero=0=omega.
I LOST X. I think the next part of the meta sequence is C=SEA. Ties in with Q14 nicely.
The "Q" segments you have been pondering have to do with "Questions" in the chapter.
Now, how to tie this in with key #5? I still have too many choices, because I can make several work. I need the other instructions still!

The length of the Omega key has been troubling. It could be 2, 4, 8, 10,12, 14, 18 or 20? I'm still not quite sure until I've confirmed the existence of a pi key, which might have different rules. For now, I'll lean towards 18 with no pi key. This is 17 unknown keys plus the "O" from our given keys.

More thoughts on I LOST X and my theory of C=SEA or C=SEE or C=CEA .. or something like that
from my atbash caesar interpretation of ATBJ meaning BUCK TASK
ATENC or ATENS
A TEN CENT = DIME ..re-aarranging you could get DICE out of this too lol... this is the red herring for this one

or you could start
ATENC a ten cent?
ATENS a ten sent
ATENI a ten I .. eagle eye?

ATENF if you are thinking about atenuate and a net=fish or
ATENH if you just feel like putting the H=8 in there. Im shooting this one down. The eight goes near the end, not the beginning.
ATENM plausible from some of my morse Q20 interpretations. If this one is right, we are in deep s**T if you read it as another cipher. Its hinting at
A TEN MEN..or..A TEN M..or.. I MEAN T..or.. I MEANT_something .. like a choose this or that puzzle. I hope this ones not right, or we are up the creek without a paddle.

I've looked at all of these plus more carefully, and I think all these ones above are incorrect.

Also, back to the length of the omega key(s) again. The author is leaving this out on purpose, because its important to the solution.
Consider this..
There are 3 movies mentioned in the puzzle. Note the three again. Lets think that each of those movies somehow helps us get 3 sequences. Perhaps they are
3 sequences of four numbers or
3 sequences of five numbers or
3 sequences of six numbers.
They might overlap as well in between once we figure the order out.
Assume we've used all of the ciphers mentioned in the chapter questions. What about the playfair cipher in Q7? I'm pretty sure I know the password if I knew how and when to use it.
Is the entire map encrypted or decrypted? and if so, am I working on the encrypted or decrypted version? I can't tell! So, with that in mind, take some of my thoughts with a grain of salt, because I might be doing the puzzle completely backwards and then have to encrypt my solution at the end to get the right map submission.

Anyone know where the first key is? The "A" or "01". I suspect I might need to find three of them. Anyone have all three?

awee ...remember when you read Q1 for the first time... this is worse than that. A lot of swear words are coming to mind, so I must be on the right track

I don't have any more time to work on this till next fri, so please leave comments. Especially if you can decode my username tap code lol

Jan 31: The sequence begins by encrypting what is before UXXXXXX
?? I'm not on board with this, this is not what I get

qbbyw..X
e..r.seX
sescgirX
.cnnn.oX
enieitfX
heg.taeX
TueyphbU

Hmm...doesn't line up well on the msg board either...you have to do this in a text editor to see it properly.

Gizmo,

That clue has an anomaly in it: _ _ X e _ _. Looks like some 'extra' spaces to me, especially when you solve it and the 'X' is last and the 'e' is first.

I have a few minuts this morning. Without over analyzing it, my spidey senses are pointing at page zero of the chapter. I'll have to go look again.
