    Default Chapter 2 - 2 different versions

Ok, so now that chapter 1 has been solved, we are all moving on to chapter two. I have found a few things in chapter 2 that seem a little odd to part of a story like this, but then again, who knows how Ron's mind has created this hunt. Not sure if these oddities will be part of the solution, but I was pretty much right on when I discovered the oddities in chapter 1, so I am crossing my fingers even though we have no direction as of yet.

Anyway, I am extremely interested in hearing from anyone who has the "other version" of this book. Some have stated that the cipher for chapter 2's poem begins with page 31, bottom paragraph "shE TOld Us abouT thE". In my book, this paragraph begins after a sentence that reads: "What falcon? What are you talking about?" Others have stated that in their book, it begins after a sentence about someone named "Chip".

My chapter 2 also begins with the words: "We went to help a firend find a stolen...." Some people have stated that in their book, chapter 2 begins quite differently.

If anyone has a different version than I do, I would be more than happy to exchange a copy of my chapter 2 for yours.

What I am interested in finding out is what are the exact similarities and what are the differences between the two. It will help us all in narrowing down the field of search for the next order of keys if there are some sizeable diffferences.

Good luck to all with this one.

I have the same version as you do Squirrelio so I'll be just as interested as you to hear what kind of differences there are in the story from the others.

My question is why are they different to begin with? You would think it might be vital for all of us to have the same version. Does anyone know why there seem to be such changes betweens printings?

I think it would be really cool if the puzzle forced us to cooperate... maybe that's why there's a section in the rules about working together and that all people involved must be eligible and abide by the rules. I don't know much about the history of treasure hunts, but would it be the first time that a solution requires multiple people to come together with different copies of the book? Maybe the different copies were distributed geographically so that it was very unlikely for one person to find both versions of the book (and if you ordered online, they send you the appropriate version based on your shipping address). Unfortunately, the prize of a single statue is not really geared for this kind of thing... but I'll store this idea away in my list of ideas for when I create my own treasure hunt

Who said there are only 2 versions?

Other than reading it in the forum, what led you to the fact there are multiple versions of the Chapter?

Seems to me a lot of assumptions are being made

Ron did acknowledge that there were several editorial versions out there, but they had no impact on the solvability or solution of the puzzle.

I only own one copy of the book, but I've seen both versions that you mentioned. I don't know if there are more than two versions of this chapter. Of the two that I've seen, both begin and end on the same page numbers and both poem ciphers begin and end on the same page numbers and produce the same poem. The actual stories are completely different with a different cast of characters in each.

That's weird why would he change the entire stories between versions?

I don't know, but because of the proximity of San Francisco to where I live, I've been concentrating on this chapter from the very beginning. That said, I fell for something in the version of the story in my book that produces a key sequence, but doesn't work in the alternate version that I've seen.

The 20 keys are no different in either version. The two different versions have nothing to do with the solution to the silver eagle.

The 'two versions of two' is just a puzzle piece for the golden eagle meta puzzle, same as the '13 1/2' chapter designation, the star symbols on the web site, and the dot at the end of the chapter numbers on the map page.

I haven't seen the other version, but I don't think having it will make one iota of difference.

    Solve the clues.

Before everyone rushes off and breaks copyright law by copying text and sending it to one another, you may want to read the book's copyright notice:

"No part of this publication may be reproduced or transmitted in any form or by any means, electronic or mechanical, including photocopy, recording, or any information storage and retrieval system"

Pretty clearly we are not LEGALLY allowed to send each other pieces of their book, and if Ron does intend for this to happen, then he's encouraging something that breaks his own copyright, which I find unlikely.
