Yep, just hanging in Chat every now & then, but no one shows up. There now, as a matter of fact. I had the 17th answer a few months ago & tried other sequences because you never know when you get one right.

How does one enter chat? Do you need a separate name and password? I can never log in

I just signed into chat with user name & password that I use for this area, until 1 day I was talking in chat on phone, laptop & home computer @ the same time. When I tried to leave chat, it kept me signed on. When you look in chat, I'm still logged on in Hollywood room. I had to get another username & password to get in there. From past experience, you can't talk in here & be in chat @ same time on the same username. But, I can talk in here & watch for chat with other username. Phew! Does that make sense?

Lady Lobster and about 4 other people I was working with have all moved on to other things for now, but they're likely to return if things get more active. I'm still here. Just waiting for the clues to become more specific. I tried a hardcore "research and deduce" approach for 2 years, whereby I studied the chapters, recurring symbols and themes, archives, historical connections, cipher ideas, website content, biblical references, etc in detail. I found probably 100 different interesting connections in each of chapters 1 and chapter 2. Not a single one of these connections or recurrent symbols or ideas has ever had even a shred of support by a single facebook clue, invisible ink, or other official clue outside of very tenuous connections (i.e. the word "FLY" relating to a number of connections relating to certain specific hints to historical flight), and some very tenuous connections between the number 7 (liberty bell 7) and an old man's stick. The only rational conclusion is that therefore all of these meta-connections and meta-data should be ignored. A staggering number of archive connections to a number of chapters as of now appear to be completely superfluous. And so the only practical approach to solving these chapters appears to me to be to simply sit back, wait for the facebook clues to mount, and slowly piece them together as the things we at least KNOW are clues become more and more specific. While I had hoped that chapter solutions would be more creative rather than mechanical, all of the evidence to date is that research has no part in this hunt and mechanical is where we're at -- chapter solutions appear to be a series of steganography challenges. I hope that this isn't the case for all 12 chapters, but it's what I have to assume until there's evidence otherwise. These solutions appear to be all about extracting letters or words from text in some consistent manner, applying one or more specific transformations or ciphers, then repeating on other chunks until a full sequence is formed. Quite consistent with what we saw in the chapter questions, actually. This "ignore every connection except the facebook clues and perhaps a rotating bird" is not really my cup of tea (too dry) as a right-brained creative type, so I'll sit here and watch and wait, and cheer the rest of you on In any case, I love what Ron's doing, and have enjoyed discovering some of the more creative secrets that the book does in fact hold. The one thing that has impressed me most about this hunt has been Ron's desire to see it through, even as interest waned. History is littered with the corpses of failed hunts, but from everything I've seen and heard, Ron's one of the least likely people on the planet to give something that's important to him up and call it quits. Hope that one of you solves C2 soon. Lobster

Erm sorry for the formatting. The website smushed my very beautiful reply into a single paragraph!

I "equally" agree with lobster's comments. There are so many turns and roads that can be taken in the text that it is hard to narrow down the exact path to take for a correct sequence. I take every clue of Ron's very literally. Let's take the most recent clue: The seventeenth key is the "perfect middle" of the first sudoku puzzle. Okay, so what is perfect middle? It is a point that is equally the same distance from all of the surrounding areas. Key word is equally. I believe there were 2 clues in that clue. One clue, the exact key at the seventeenth position and another clue the word "equally" or a similar word to find in the text or it could mean that the sequence is located in the perfect middle of the story. And I believe the clue "the end is just the beginning" refers to both stories. Not sure what the rest of the un-used letters and characters were in that clue, maybe just noise.
And the video of the Falcon, our first clue. Is it rotating, spinning clockwise to envoke a clue about time or is it simply a video of "the Falcon itself?" The ladies story does say that "in the end, all either of us cared about was the Falcon itself." Who is either of us? Babs and I or the men and women of both stories? And what do people do on the equator during the midday sun? Wear a hat? Go inside? Find a cave with greek letters etched on the walls?

well put lobster. i think its to early to tell really the nature of the mechanisms of how the chapters are solved. after chapter 2, 3 and perhaps 4 are solved, we will get a good idea of what information to look at and be able to start forming basic patterns of solves. it does appear that most connections you can find are just superfluous.

but i do think solves are going to get more complicated as each chapter goes on.

in other news, i did not win the powerball

    Wink

As so many others have done, I took an extended break from focusing on the hunt and only stopped in once in a while to see what was happening. Hey, you gotta golf when the weather's good.
About three weeks ago I again began to go back over the clues and they began to steer me in a new direction. Most, if not all, of the clues are now making a bit more cohesive sense. I only need to apply these new "directions" to the right bunch of text. With 2 stories to contend with, there is a whole lot of text to go through. I believe I am very close.

BTW Jeff, its so hot there, it's like an oven...
