    Question General Questions about TWGTH

    Hi all,

I am new to both this forum and TWGTH. Mods, I apologize if this is in the wrong location.

I received my book last week, and have about 50 questions left to answer, plus a few other things, of course.

My questions may seem silly, but I just want to make sure I am looking for the right things-

    1. Are the passwords encoded within the chapters overtly, or is there some guesswork as to the "theme" of the story? (I have not decoded all of the codes within each story yet.)

    2. When looking for the order of the keys on the map, I assume that I am looking for clues within the story that go with the answers themselves, and not the number of the clue. For example, since Chapter 1 was already solved... the first two numbers were 1 and 20. In looking for clues for those within the story, you find that a poem is first, and the poem is by Denham, so the first answer is 1. Then you use Cherokee, a type of warrior for the second answer. But I am NOT looking for any reference to the number 1, and then the number 20, etc. within the story, correct? I would think that to do so would be way too obvious, but I am interested to see what the answers with large numbers in other chapters reference.

I hope that makes sense. Hope you are all having a great Monday!

    Welcome Aimee!

There are no silly questions, and I commend both on the progress you've made in under 2 weeks, as well as your willingness to jump into something that others have been working on for over 2 years!

Here are answers to your questions, which may not be what you're looking for, but are the best I can do:

    1) This is difficult to answer without giving too much away. If you get stuck on any specific chapter, I would recommend looking through the Chapter threads at the top of the WGTH forum; there is most likely something in there that will help you. I think I can safely say 2 things about the passwords: a) When you've found it for a given chapter, you'll know it. b) the methods for encoding the passwords are different for each chapter.

    2) Your guess on this one is as good as anyone's. It would probably be worth taking a look at Hog's published solution for CH1. In this case the content of the questions/answers were not used at all to solve the order. This is not to say a potentially alternate method isn't available to solve Ch1 that does use the answers to the questions in the book, but to my knowledge no one has found anything solid yet. And of course, with only 1 chapter solved, there's no reason to think the solution method for chapter 2 (and the rest) will not be completely different from chapter 1.

    Best of luck!

Thanks so much for getting back to me Bass, today, and on my introductory post! I haven't even found all the keys yet, although before my book got here I did decode some clue and found the Omega Key, but now I don't remember where. So yeah, I don't know what people are talking about with those as I go through these threads, but will get to that later.

Is there any way you could direct me to the link with Hog's solution- I looked on the Facebook page, but did not find anything. I do know the winning numeric order of the keys, but an explanation of how the winner found that order would be excellent, so I can at least have some idea (maybe) of what I am looking for!

Thank you so much! And all I have to say is that that blog post is a whole bunch of gibberish to me at this point. Wow. But I will read it more in depth as I (hopefully) progress.
