I se the frustrations coming out. I, too, did not see this coming, but it is what it is. Off to Chapter 3 now. Maybe I can stub my toe and trip over the solution.

never did chapter one...but you mean Ron never sends out a complete explanation of the solution? this is pretty ridiculous. no wonder people drop out. We need a complete clue by clue explanation.
we should bombard the facebook page with demands of explanations. except there's only about 10 people left even interested enough to demand anything.
can't believe the j and q just don't exist or are somewhere else....but at least fill us in. winning is really just a lucky guess after a zillion clues.
i'm done...one less person to compete against!

Just to let you all know that I e-mailed Ron earlier and expressed a few concerns regarding the solution.

I received a reply very quickly and was assured that the next E-Newsletter would explain things.

What about a duck? Is a duck a goose? It's in the same family, so do we trust ducks or not? What about a lucky goose? Does luck trump geese? And does luck tell us a number, or a modifier on trustability? And do trumps tell us anything interesting at all? Is foul language a red herring? Curses in general? What about a warm, cooked goose sitting on the table? Is it valid then? What about eating a goose while winking? Look at the goose or not? What if a back is turned to a goose? What about a red goose? Is a red goose a warm goose? Or is a red goose a red herring goose, making it a goose we are to trust?

That's the problem with a symbolic system of story-telling. When you're modifying ambiguous symbols with other ambiguous symbols and having no consistent method to tell precisely whether red is good or bad, whether ducks are geese, whether eyes are more than a golden click, whether beds and breakfasts mean anything outside of a later chapter, etc etc etc etc, absolutely nothing has any meaning whatsoever.

Well after all the time I spent on chapter two and the frustration over a solution I discounted as not bring correct because it was missing two keys, my wife has hidden my books from me so I will not be working on chapter three at least for now. Good luck to those who choose to continue on.

To start I want to say that I have NO IDEA how to solve this without the clues. With the clues however, the answer is fairly straightforward. All of the numbers in the sequence can be found except one (J). The placement of Q, and several other keys, were given to us by way of clues. We had clues that told us to go down the sides of the page and which side. We had other clues that told us where to start. With the correct understanding of the clues, the answer actually makes perfect sense. A failure to understand the clues does not necessarily mean that the answer is invalid. I had the correct first half for a while and realized after the solution was posted that I would have had the correct second half if I had not made a transcription error in my own notes. It IS possible to solve with the clues, but it is not easy. Again, without the clues though I have no idea how this is to be done. Maybe on future chapters I will figure that out.
    ~Cheers
FYI: The clue “I sold Doe Goose gold viol” is actually an anagram. Computer solvers won’t help you with it, but it too was telling you to go down the side of the page.

Now I know you’re all disappointed at not winning Chapter 2, but what on earth is all that whingeing about in this thread??? The clues made perfect sense to a couple of people at least. Gisela had the correct solution with her very first submission ever, and Andrew used the same logic to find the answer just a couple of days later. That has to tell you that this Chapter was eminently solvable !

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. So in retrospect, which clues pointed to the difficult part of the actual solution? Forget the boy’s version, as the clues meant that all you serious treasure hunters had that part sussed. It was the girl’s version that gave the problems, and in particular the last two letters ......

    You knew that G was the 17th letter & Q the 20th.

B,R,Q & J were in the sequence (given by the Bravo .... and the Juliet clues) but you also knew this after solving the boy’s version.

“The end is just the beginning” ... gives two things ... after the end of the sequence from the lines of the text .... 14, 5, 16, 8, 11, 18, 7, 2 .... it tells you that you must start again, and also “just the beginning” gives the letter “J” coming next (the beginning letter of ‘just’). Now in actual fact, that can only go in the 19th position, so the sequence is complete.

Also on April 24th, the clue says that “If the answer is hard to find ...... .... using the “logical order” of things”. Well, the logical order of letters is the alphabet, and J of course, comes before Q .... just another confirmer.

As I say, I know you’re all disappointed, but take a long hard look at this hunt. If you were competing in one where the grand prize is an expenses paid trip to claim a thirty thousand dollar silver eagle, you’d be pretty excited by it ... yes. .... Well, with The World’s Greatest Treasure Hunt, you get not one but twelve chances to win that thirty thousand dollar silver eagle. Not just that, but when they’re all won, we then all get the chance to win a million dollars in cash.

Now that’s a pretty amazing life changing situation, you must agree.

So, what I say is ... put your disappointment aside, concentrate and think !!
THINK about the chapter text ; THINK about the upcoming clues : but especially THINK about any cryptic clues you might get. As can be seen from this Chapter, you mustn’t ignore any clues whatsoever, they’re in there for a purpose ... the most confusing clues are commonly the most useful to solving the hunt.

So, as some of you are already doing ... clear your brains, stop whingeing, and think positively, because everything starts again with Chapter 3 .... and GOOD LUCK everybody !!

Thanks Roger for your comments. I will only add that that the solution is supposed to be able to be found without any clues and the bone of contention comes when there is no letter "J" and "Q" at the end of the women's sequence.
