    Default Solving a chapter

I truly believe there are clues/ciphers in every chapter to help solve each chapter. Ron wouldn't create such an incredible hunt just to have the solution be a random string of letters. Just because we haven't found the "in chapter clues", does not mean they don't exist.

RX - The following is from the Hunt blog. It says: The Clues we are releasing at this time are to support our questers in getting through the Treasure Map for Chapter 1

It seems like a pretty specific statement to me. But, I don't know how incredible/sloppy his language might be.

Thanks. We now know that for chapter one the end of the map had a letter "X". That is also the roman numeral for ten and the solution started "A TEN" and it was this type of witty clue that led me to believe there would be more to this hunt than a search for letters within text.

I don't recall if this has been discussed or not, or if it's relevant, but the chapter 2 solution was found on p 32, paragraph 32--the second half began on p 32, paragraph 24--it's that X thing again.

The whole invisible ink business is impressive as well.

I keep getting the impression that something is going on that I haven't quite grasped. There are plenty of very smart people around here. If there's a universal mechanism taking place, this bunch can collectively figure it out.

There are a whole set of very general and I'm not sure entirely accurate statements that have been made.

I for one will be fascinated to see how this one holds up as we proceed through all of the chapters and the golden eagle: "No need to get a second copy as chapter 2 is solved" .

You are right Lobster. And that has been an issue for me. He created a hunt in which people are literally tearing the book apart and looking for invisible ink, etc. And in which every statement, clue, or other communication is analyzed ad nauseam. It is incumbent upon the creator to be as accurate as possible in every way. If it's a sloppy use of language, it's inexcusable. It is disconcerting to find that I have doubt in what should be statements of fact.

I feel your pain regarding the pronouncement that a second copy of C2 is unnecessary. The implications are, as you have said, that any/all of the text is meaningless, and we are just picking letters out of the air. Alternatively, each chapter may be a standalone item with no relationship to the others. But if it is, no one, not even the winners have been able to find a coherent, underlying logic for why the "solutions" are what he says they are beyond following the clues.

As a side note, I hope Doc is not implying that there is any invisible ink in the book. The tape of Ron's phone call to Heather indicated that the Cunninghams have LOOKED for invisible ink. Not that they FOUND any. The idea that an outfit run on a shoestring budget hired a company to manufacture specially reactant paper (that would not go up in flames, or poison small pets and toddlers, or do anything else a lawyer would find objectionable), and then pay Lord know how much extra to insert one page of it in a mass produced book, does not seem logical to me. Nor do I believe they printed the whole book on such paper. The whole idea seems cost prohibitive.

There could still be something to take from chapter 2 (either version). Remember we have the same ciphertext in each, and the same questions at the end. It could even turn out to be the chink of light we are looking for, ruling out a load of text in one stroke. Is there anything to say Ron would restrict any clues just to the story?

No. They need not be restricted to the story. And one does hope that some underlying logic or puzzle will appear. But given the solutions so far, I am not as sanguine as I once was that there is a structure.

Correct, it would also make sense for there to be useful information in the C2 commonalities.

I was just discussing the ramifications of the majority of the clue-sounding parts of the C2 texts having no external use whatsoever. If that is the case, then it implies to me that reading the text and searching for clues in the texts of C4, C5, etc is not a productive method for solving these chapters.

The optimal method, to date, to winning a chapter is to ignore 99.8% of the text in the chapter and wait for facebook clues. In fact, in a funny sort of way, one may actually be at an advantage by not even reading the chapter until a number of facebook clues have been released, so as to not start off on the wrong foot. That is the approach I am currently taking with C4 -- ignoring it. It appears to be a sound approach.

I hope that heather's C3 solution will prove this approach wrong.
