    The clues do hint at Atbash, but it makes no sense with the text. The father used a coded language he made-up on his own to spell out the markers. Atbash is not a made-up cipher by a person hunting for gold. Coded language does indicate navajo, yet the clue says "part of the mystery the Peralta family had to talk to the code talkers." So what is used to decode the other part? So much "noise" and so little clarity from the clues. But it's easier than you think and the math is simple.

    The bigger problem with Atbash is that it only uses letters G through Z. Letters A through F map to numbers 21 through 26, which are invalid keys. So atbash uses 20 letters, not 26. It uses no more letters than any other substitution cipher.

    As such, atbash conflicts with all of those hints that say to use them all / use all 26 / use A through Z. It conflicts with lazy fox.

    A=1,B=2,C=3...T=20, U-Z=undefined cipher uses 20 letters.

    Atbash uses Z=1,Y=2,...H=19,G=20,F-A=undefined. Uses 20 letters. It uses no more letters than standard A=1,B=2.

    Any other cipher you want to suggest? I can almost certainly find clues that undermine it.

    Guys, I'm 100% certain I am on the right track this time. There is more than enough clues for the cipher type to use and where to look. What I can say is, this chapter has that "confirmation" built in that everyone has been wondering about. I'm now wondering if it was there in the previous chapters and wasn't discovered? If I don't figure out the last part and someone wins, I'll be happy to elaborate. In the mean time, I'm trying to get it right before the new clues come out. I got one chance left if today didn't work. Guess I'll find out soon, or maybe in two weeks lol?

    With regards to atbash, it would be used AFTER you find the markers and to find the markers you must use or you will use every letter. With possibly the exception of the two that went on a hunt of their own. This means that your skip cipher will count or skip over 24 of the 26 letters of the alphabet. Then after you find those pesky markers, an atbash may be used to get the sequence. The math is simple and every one counts. You will have to be twice as lucky, but don't double up.
    Don't you just love the clarity of the clues.

    I agree that use all of them could mean almost anything and could certainly refer to touching of all letters within text.

    But the lazy fox clue is pretty specific because it surely can only mean use each and every letter (all 26) of the alphabet. After all that is what the idiom is about... Using a,b,c,...,x,y,z. All 26 of them, not 20 of them. Atbash would be "lzy ox".

    BTW, those clues about easiness may have little or nothing to do with the actual difficulty of the chapter. I think it's fair to say that the chapter is not simple, otherwise it would have been won long ago. By definition it is therefore not simple. It would not be unexpected nor unreasonable for this chapter to be marginally more difficult than C3 was.

    I think a lot of people are probably close. I certainly think I have been close for a while, and am still working through the possibilities that match the clues (I still have 100 sequences or so to go that I could justify as correct answers, but none of them I'd call simple).

    Well went through my short-list of remaining sequences and I'm pretty certain I just found alpha in there. Hopefully

    If it's the correct one, then I can outline a series of pretty clever (some subtle) clues in the book that puts it all together.

    There are only 20 spaces on the map. So...

    I don't you get to submit an additional 6 via email. So if it is not possible, maybe another interpretation makes more sense.

    Well, i think I have corrected my final mistake, and I'm somewhat convinced I have submitted the correct solution, if nobody beat me to it first.
    Two fingers crossed for tomorrow.
