Thinking it over some more...

-In your quest for the best you will have to do less to start.
-If east is least and west is best keep this in mind when tracking the sun as it sets on the prize.
-The start of the solution for this chapter is easier than you can imagine.

The word best is used twice, and one of them references "start". The other clue that references "start" has the word imagine, which anagrams to the answer for Q2=b.

The first key must be 2, no? or is it 10, 14, 13, 9, 5? If chapter 4 clues are in play, then the evens certainly work as well...The USS arizona BB22? Gut check to see if this is simple enough and not over-thinking things...

Gizmo,

what about this: If east is least and west is best, keep this in mind when tracking the sun as it sets on the prize. The sun sets in the west. The start of the solution for this chapter is "easier than you can imagine" easier than you can imagine is 23 letters long, and 23 is W in the alphabet...W is the first letter of (W)est, so W or 23, would be the first key? Or, since it says you will have to do LESS than BEST to start, if Best=(W)est=W=23, then it could also mean that the first key could be 22 or 21 (U, You) lol

Perhaps it doesn't pass the litmus test for simplicity and matching clues? I'll keep going a bit further...

If east is least and west is best... the zero sum game must be about +5-5=0. East-5=0 (least). West+5=B (best). Proposing that if you go over 26, we clip. I thought this was pretty obvious by now, but maybe not.

The sun sets in the east near the end of the chapter. Nothing else says anything about west, except the simplest backward forward cipher is all you need. One other clue says to do less to start, so if the first key is 2, the first letter is G (your pound of feathers that weighs more than a pound of gold clue - referenced in Q7).

That could be. But why say, "easier than you can imagine" and not just simply, easier than you think?

5. Did we not have a previous chapter where a clue referenced the sun setting in the east? If it was chapter 3, then the clue means a reverse because that is what happened in chapter 3 for omega.
The sun set in the East to me means that the last key you find, excluding the stray or missing ones, will occur on a page on the right.
I am trying to keep it simple, but some of the clues contradict one another.

Imagine is the answer for Q2 anagram of Enigma. There may be other reasons as well.

Well then I think 2 would most likely be the first key!

Why aren't we able to edit or delete our posts anymore?

Anyway, Imagine has 2 I's and Enigma has 1... was it I Enigma for the #2 answer?

In the other chapters, were the missing keys actually found somewhere in the chapter, or were they just missing? I can't seem to remember.
