Default Chapter 5: Clues and Discussion

    CLUE 1: 10/17/14
"Riddle me this and riddle me that: the chapter number will play a critical role in where the treasure is at!"

    CLUE 2: 10/24/14
"If you are looking for a 'tap' to help you solve this chapter, look on the other side."

I was thinking perhaps the "riddles" again refer to the chapter questions. As for the tap on the other side, perhaps that means to use a section from the poem once it is decoded.

    Lesley,

I think it was you who asked the critical question a while back: What's the Bible verse now?

Completely agreed about riddles = chapter questions.
A 'tap' on the other side is on its 'opposite' side. Try PAT and think about Saturday Night Live.....

I understand his clues, and they're helping confirm what I've done. Please let it be right this week....

Waiting with fingers crossed....having trouble with the leftover letters....

    Doc,
Sounds good in theory about the chapter questions, but then we must have a good explanation for CH3?
“Riddle me this and riddle me that: Bolton, Fields, Kimmel, Shallow will be the key to pulling this one out of the hat.”

Ah I forgot about this clue! Okay so maybe we must focus on the 5 then. There is 5 letters in a Bacon cipher, 5th page, page ending in 5, Caesar 5 (although I can't believe it would be Caesar again), question 5...

As for the tap clue, perhaps the other side of the wall er page?

Doc, what question are you referring to?

    Lesley,

Somebody asked the question--I thought it may have been you--concerning the fact that if 'alpha and omega, first and the last, beginning and the end' covered the first three chapters, was there another verse that covered chapter 4?

We can solve this. We don't need any facebook clues. One of the problems is that we had none of the word games in the chapter questions to use as practice for solving a map.

Think back to the beginning for a moment. Two enormous clues were given to us in the process of solving the chapter questions that we subsequently ignored because they didn't automatically seem to be a part of a chapter answer.

    1. A question = a KEY
    2. The first three questions are the same throughout all the chapters.

Those are the clues for your first word puzzle. If you know a question is a 'key', and your intuition is already telling you it's odd that the first three questions are pretty much the same throughout the book, another way of stating these facts is this:

THE FIRST THREE QUESTIONS ARE THE FIRST THREE KEYS.

It's a statement of fact, but it has another meaning. It's referring to the first three keys of the single overall solution mechanism.

If that's the case, then the next implied question is this: What's the names of the first three questions that we'll use as the names of these 'first three keys'?

You can automatically figure out the name of the third key because it's already standing out--you know it's incorrectly named.

The third question, and therefore the third key, is PASSWORD.

    Doc

PS--I'll move this into another topic because I don't want to derail your chapter 5 clue discussion.

    New clue out:

Your next Chapter 5 clue: Ymj xjhwjy yt ymnx hmfuyjw nx sty ymj ymnslx ymfy dtz hfs xjj gzy ymj ymnslx ymfy dtz hfs’y xjj bmnhm bnqq rfpj ymj inkkjwjshj.

This one also fits the general solution I had found before any of the FB clues came out. That's 3/3 so I assume I'm on the right track.

I think I've got about 90% of the solution. The problem is that there are a large number of fake starting points for this chapter. That's fine and all, but trying to determine which are fake and which are the real ones is completely and utterly impossible. Misdirection in this hunt is structured via an interesting set of semantics. Unfortunately, those semantics are inherently ambiguous and also seem to have been misused in facebook clues, such that a great number of the herring/misdirection signalling is unreliable. As such, you can never actually rule out ANY of the potential starting points.

There are also some fake VALIDATORS in the C5 solution. That is, things that tell you that you're on the right track. Only, they're not.

Incredibly frustrating. I completely see what they're doing, and how they're doing it. It just doesn't quite work. It's pretty much brute force for me at this point, starting with the starting points I've got the most data for and working down.

Fun puzzles in this book, but whoever designed the misdirection layer went way overboard.

    Maybe Invisible Ink?

    Roman numeral II?

I'm fine with that--not sure about '...which will make the difference.' Sounds like something subtracted.

I just checked to be sure.

No new Invisible Ink message as yet.
